Posting this question for a friend although it more me thats out of ideas now
My mates discovery the other week broke down on the motorway, he describes it as he was driving along at 70 when his disco started too shake like it had a flat tyre then the engine cut out
Back home now we are trying to find the problem ( i personally think the engines toast) but we are struggling to find one. He stripped down the front of the engine ( TDV6) to check the front timing belt which is like new and perfectly tensioned so isnt that ( have not checked the rear belt but that one just does the injector timing doesnt it ). He has also drained the oil looking for metal but it is clean and no signs of metal anywhere which would of thought we would find if the crank or a piston had gone. He also checked the starter motor has not jammed in the fly wheel but all is fine there and worked fine on a bench test
The engine does appear to be seized as with a strong arm on the crank shaft bolt the engine does not move either way. Anyone want to suggest where to look next? Like i say i thought if it was piston or crank related we would of founds metal in the oil or in the bottom of the sump but it all looks fine. Im guessing the next step is to take the heads off but does anyone have a theory of where to look or that it might be something simple we have not thought of Discovery 3 - Black SE with HSE upgrade

If you cant turn the crank then I would say shes probably toast, but as you have no swarf maybe one of the camchain tensioners/chain broke up?

Most likely one of the bearings has spun.

There is a Jag S-Type 2.7 auto in the BCA Auction at Manchester, 2006 74,800 miles, mot till July. Might be cheap enough if you decide to go down that route?
Reg No is Y444JAG
