Insurance for goods on a trailer |
|
Hi all
To start, I am purely taking my own items here. My cars, tools, items. I am not moving stuff for others and I am not being paid to move stuff.
My query is, if I put one of my cars on my trailer, towed by my car, how is that car insured while in the trailer?
The trailer is covered by the car for third party
If the trailer I’m using at the time is insured then this increases to cover the trailer itself
How do I insure my items on the car? How do people insure their own trial Land Rover for instance on the way to an event

The goods on/in a trailer, even an insured car, have to be insured via a 'goods in transit' policy.
You don't have to have this policy, just if you want them to be insured.

Hi, its definitely looking into this per insurer/policy
I tow my Elise and that has specific words in the policy as its on a specialist policy for race/trackday cars. I do need to check this though, as my original insurer was bought out so I need to check thats still on the policy. Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

This might sound silly, but my insurance for moving vehicles not owned by me, and for 'hire or reward', had a clause which insured them for the loading and unloading, not all policies cover this aspect of it.
