I am preparing to do the 2014+ Facelift on my Discovery 3 / LR3. I have all the parts for the complete conversion, including the new Discovery 4 / LR4 wing mirrors with LED strip.
My question is regarding the Signature Strip DRL. What kind of wiring needs to be done to have it function as a proper DRL?
I read a thread that mentioned something about pin 16 needing to be a switched positive, and I know where to get the ignition signal from the engine fuse box.
The thread also said there needs to be a failsafe or else the module will fry. Unfortunately most of the post from that thread have been deleted.
Can anyone shed some light on what I need to get it working properly? Thanks

Well I got this all sorted. I ended up making my own DRL relay harness with a 5pin SPDT relay.
The headlights I used are USDM Xenon with non ASF.
Pin# 2 does the signature strip as sidelights (low lumen output) and Pin# 8 does the same signature strip as DRL (full lumen output).
You want to make sure the signature strip doesn't get positive 12v from these two pins at the same time or it may fry the LED controller.
For USDM you also need to give Pin#16 positive 12v as this is the for the side markers.
So I simply swapped Pin# 2 with 16 to work the side markers on vehicle socket, and from my own harness fed Pin# 2 and 8 on the headlight socket itself, bypassing factory harness.
The signature strip now has full output with ignition switch on, and when the side markers come on it dims the signature strip by switching voltage to Pin 2.

Well done dae - I am going to save this info for when I attempt the same conversion.LeighW
The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Thanks for the post.
I am doing the same. However I dont have a pin nr16 on my new lights?
yesterday, I tried my purchased headlight from a 2014 d4 onto my D3.
Initially Evrything seams to work!! However when i turned on the side blinkers, I got the AFS warning light on the dash and the afs lights turns on when I blink the side blinkers. The AFS dous not come on when turning, only when side blinkers are activated. The side blinkers blink with a Normal timing, but in the cockpit I get the fast phase clicking.
My D3 is a 2008 with xenon (not bi xenon) and AFS . The headlights i have purchased is a 2014 style d4 headlight with AFS and bi xenon.
I have pin 16 on my harness but it's missing from the 2014 headlights.
D4 light are LR052380

I believe the Afs needs to disabled via an IID tool as it will not work on a d3 fitted with D4 lights due to the difference in control or you will have error lights on the dash. Do you actually want US style marker lights illuminated (indicator lights on permanently) or just have the signature DRLs operating?Must stop buying shiny toys....

I thought the corner beams only worked with indicators anyway.
You probably need to fit load resistors to get normal speed dash flashing

Hi And thanks for the rapid response!
Aha ok. i need change the ccf for the AFS. And I guess this would require a gap id tool. I only have a Bigger Autel unit . but i dont think I can change ccf via that.
But how do i fix the cornering light issue ? It comes on when I blink to one side? and i also get the fast blinkin inside the car.
On a side note. I read on the forum that the DRL lights have 2 intensified modes. one low light and one high?
I have attached some pictures as it looks correct to me
Do not want the us style side markers

And yes the the fenders will be changed and I'm doing steel bumpers front and back etc..

The idea is the car knows you are going to turn because the indicators are flashing. If you are doing under 30mph it will turn that sides corner light on to illuminate the road/junction/corner.
2 brightness for DRL. Dim is parking light

Ok. so I should see 2 different illuminations park and driving ? i am going to test that today;-) Thanks. hope that that works.
But you have any idea when it comes to the fast blinking inside the car ?
So far :
need to programme away AFS ( will probably clear the warning light).
verify that I have different illumination on drl during park and DRL.
Corner light is correctly illuminating during side blinking. How ever not when turning the steering wheel. I guess that have to do with the can bus / LIN Bus situation and will not work?
But the fast blinking inside the car is still a question mark.

I don’t know if you will get two brightness when in a D3. I guess that is why you need that relay above and the point of this thread

Amazing! ordering 2x right now !
how do one adjust the lights after this config ? Are you able to get that done correctly?

As Pete has said, relays are needed to fix the internal fast flash of the indicator light on the dash when you use indicators. This actually isn’t anything other than the car realising the resistance in the indicator circuit is too low and thinks the indicator bulb is dead.
You will still need to wire in a relay to the sidelight/ parking light feed to take 12v to the Drl circuit whilst doing this it might be a good idea to add the functionality of dropping the DRL feed when the indicator is active
I don’t know if you have noticed on a facelift D4 the DRL goes off on the side the indicator is used and then comes back on a second or two later after it is turned off. There was a post on here about how to add this.Must stop buying shiny toys....

Hi Darrind
Thank you for the response . Just to avoid confusion for my part. What Pete linked to was resistors and not Relays. So I guess we are are talking about the same thing. To fix fast blink, need to inline a resistance in the blinker wire .
But you are mentioning a actuall relay to engage a function for the DRL to turn of when I activate side blinkers?
