| D to N or N to D lever shift |

I have a 2011 D4. When it is in D it can be moved to N without pressing the button on the lever and vice versa. There is a definite click when the lever is moved and it has never moved on its own but i wondered if it should be necessary to press the button on the lever to change from D to N or N to D. All other changes require the button to be pressed. Many Thanks.

Mine doesn’t need the button pressed when moving.

You might want to check whether the solenoid locks it in N after 6 seconds unless you've got your foot on the brake. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

It’s normal. That’s how you change from High to Low range whilst moving. Drive at speeds up to Xx (can’t remember the figure) to shift form low to high or vice-Versa, first select N.
You don’t need to press the trigger to do that. If you did, there would be a risk of you overshooting and accidentally selecting reverse.
