Hi All. Heading UK to Turkey end of the month in the D4. Calais/Bordeaux/ Lyon/Genva/ Brindisi/ Greece/Izmir, then back a month later Greece/Albania/ Croatia/Slovenia/Austria etc.
D4 is a 2012 8 speed, with 100k on the clock. Any advice on things to watch out for, both vehicle and road wise? Disco will be fully serviced inc g/box oil change.
Also, any ideas on tailgate tents that fit the D4? Something quick to put up/down, as we will only overnight in it when we can't hit a b&b, and need to kip in the back of the motor. A bit of extra tentage would be good!
Thanks for any input

There are a few countries on your left that most breakdown companies won't cover you in.
Other than that I'd just fill use and go, but take an IID BT with you just incase. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)

05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
IID BT
BAS FBH control

Get your aircon checked / recharged, Greece & Izmir are HOT at the tail end of August wife’s Turkish and she can’t think of anything special regarding paperwork for foreign cars in Turkey, unless your staying a while. I’ve always been tempered to do that journey as we’re over in Turkey regular for family visits and the off road scene is huge 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey
My Wife thinks the D3 is a hobby, The D3 thinks the wife is 💕

Don’t bother with Green Flag. The D4 broke down in northern France 4 weeks ago this coming Tuesday, there may be a lorry going out on Sunday to collect it but will only know if it is on their list on Monday!
Green Flag pass the job straight to a French based company and they have contracted a uk firm to collect it who appear to be short of drivers. Disco 4

Well chaps, what a terrible bunch of defeatist's we Disco owners are!!! I have to say, whilst I have reservations, my D3 did 80,000 for me including mucho heavy towing and off-road stuff, and only dropped me in it once, when the battery lead chafed on the front diff! And it was on 100,000 when I bought it, so 180,000 now. fingers crossed that the D4 does the same. Mind you, I can change the front sus. arms in record time, I did them so often!

I’d consider changing the original hoses for silicon ones. Especially if you’re planning to keep the D4 long term.
Clean up the EGR system.
100k miles is right at the point where suspension components and bushes tend to give up. As can wheel bearings.
Vango do a nice tailgate tent. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Decent Europe cover (if there is such a thing) is probably good to have. Bonus if they cover the "off piste" counties but in my experience, the places that aren't covered are cheap for local recovery anyway.
However in my experience, by the time you've finished faffing with UK provided Europe cover, you may as well have just paid a local garage to collect.
Just do your fluids, tyres. Don't get rekt on caffeine and enjoy what's going to be a fantastic drive, especially on the way back. I drive to Bosnia/Croatia and back twice a year with very little grief. Just remember, if you see LED/Xenon's in your mirror, they're probably doing 150mph.

Getting the aircon checked is a good idea, might think its working & cooling ok in this country, once you hit hotter countries it could be luke warm due to lack of gas.
