hello all,

There seems to be a considerable price difference is it ok to go with aftermarket, they are both still plastic!

Metal might make more sense, The BritPart plastic one is 1/3 cost of OEM

I am kicking myself for not getting this done when I did the Cambelts last year, somehow something I never read about as being a major fault

I had to try a non genuine one as the genuine ones were out of stock when I needed a right and side one just before Christmas- the one I received looked well made however when I transferred the oil filler onto it I realised that it was loose and wasn’t fitting properly- I took it back to the supplier and tried another which had the same problem.

Fortunately I was able to eventually find a genuine one and fitted that, which was spot on, but could only get the RH side.

Annoying that a few months later the LH side went too so I have also fitted genuine to that side. For reference the inlet for Jaguar engines has a different part number but is the same price
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

You dont touch the covers when doing the belt change so its not like it would have saved you any money.

Not strictly true, but the cover doesn't need fully removed to access the manifolds
Having the belts done at the same time is easier though, and saves a little on the costs Thumbs Up

WRT to non-genuine covers, I've never fitted one, but heard that they are prone to leaking oil.
Not sure if using an OEM/Genuine gasket would solve that, but:

Genuine manifolds are on back order for the next3-4 months, according to our dealership. Both Jaguar + Land Rover numbers.
I've even tried our PSA dealerships to be told "Long term" back order with no ETA for stock Rolling Eyes

So, if your desperate, I expect it'll need to be an aftermarket part, with the view that you'll probably have to replace it again at some point...

Is 3D printing an option? By the time you do the work to replace it twice it’s become a very expensive part.

I’m not sure I understand why there are so many supply chain shortages at the moment but it seems like a fantastic opportunity for anyone able to flexible manufacturing.

Let’s face it, genuine parts manifold hasn't got a great track record, so using pattern aftermarket parts might be no worse.

thanks all, the alloy one is a no-brainer, I am guessing like all other sensible engine manufacturers but can't wait for that either. Disco Mikey does the OEM gasket have a part number pls?
