Fitted new engine. Cranks but won't start.
First time cranking the new engine and she ain't starting.
Cranks well, have cranked 5 times in 5 second bursts so far. Not a cough.
I have triple checked every connection.
Tyre valve above HPFP is bled and clean.
Cracked off a connector on fuel rail, pressure and fuel present.
Only faults are transmission faults. AFAIK, nothing that I haven't seen before that would allow the vehicle to crank but not start. Thoughts?
Any help much appreciated.

These are what I've got after clearing and attempting to start
Looking at them again, they are suspect. And I don't know why they are there. Feel like I've missed something.
However I wouldn't have thought they would allow a crank but no start

They are a nightmare to start.
Maybe a small about if starting fluid. Not too much that it pools though

I was hoping to hear something like this to be honest. I've never seen one start from new before, except on LR time.. but there was a cut in the video.
I'll keep turning

So when you say I nightmare, what are we talking?
What can I expect? So far there is no chance in noise.
Is there any gearbox/transmission fault that could ever cause a crank but no start situation?

Don't do this
It can take 30-40 seconds of cranking to get them running again
Bleed the LP system upto the HP pump. Undo one union on the fuel rail and cycle ignition until fuel runs out, then repeat with other side. This doesn't always work, just saves the battery if it does

With one of the unions backed off, fuel is dribbling out, barely. LP is bled. The first time I cracked off the union, there was a hiss of pressure. That was about 5 minutes if cranking time ago.
Edit, there's lots of pressure. Pipe needed lifting slightly

I think it's just air in the system. Will bleed it through and hopefully it'll go. Bit annoyed with myself for not bleeding properly to begin with. Feel like I've just put a load of wear into my new bearings..

You wont have worn the bearings. It will still make oil pressure while cranking
Charge the battery, and give it a few decent cranks. There are no cam/crank sync errors, so you should be good to goMy D3 Build Thread

Thanks for the reassurance!
Still no luck. Getting some decent 50 second cranks running off my fiesta.
Does the HP fuel system self bleed in any way at all.
I'm sure I've got the air out at this point, but I've only been releasing the two unions closest. Gonna let off the others now, one at a time.
If there is for some reason a tiny bit of air in the system, will it get out or does it really need to be a perfect bleed?
Cheers

Can you feel / hear the injectors triggering? there is a low fuel pressure lockout reset (on Autologic, anyway) that basically allows the injectors to trigger with low pressure in the fuel rails.

I would say the injectors aren't doing anything. Put fingers on 4 and can feel nothig more than the engine cranking.[/quote]

Are there any "pending" faults logged in the engine module?
It should have started and run by now, if you have fuel in the rails...My D3 Build Thread

How much fuel is showing on the gauge? - if the gauge isn't reading or there's less than 3 litres it'll not start, regardless of fuel in the rails due to engine protection strategy.

Talking to another member offline, we played with a few ideas and discovered a couple of things.
Below is a screenshot of the crank sensor value before I did a hard reset.
This was ignition on
This was whilst cranking (i know it says inactive - I had just stopped to take the screenshot)
This was after reset ignition on
After reset, whilst cranking it was displaying 0 rpm
So it would seem my CPS is at fault here?
Obviously it worked just fine on the old engine last week so the conclusion would be, I failed to connect it properly...
