Foreigner registering in South Africa |
|
I already posted in the general forum beffore realising there was a SA specific thread. I am a UK resident trying to get registration papers for a D4 in Cape Town, the dealer is telling me I need a three year visa before this is possible, I have 3 months! Any wisdom on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

There's a motorcycle vlogger I follow called ItchyBoots. She bought a motorbike in SA and had difficulties registering it. I think its this episode:
I think from memory she persuaded the dealership to register it, and had to bring it back to them. 2018 1.5Ti Skoda Octavia - dull as f&ck
2019 D5 SdV6 SE Anniversary - black/black - good riddance!!
2010 D4 TDV6 HSE - Nara Bronze with black - now gone!!
2006 D3 TDV6 HSE - Buckingham Blue with Alpaca - now gone!!
BMW R1200GS - also blue, also gone!!
Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin DCT - Dakar colours
Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 - the Black Arrow

Welcome Alwaysthirsty
I have no knowledge of SA law, but might it be worth considering setting up a company & registering the vehicle in the name of that company?

Thanks Gents, it appears as in the video that the dealer will register it in their name, NJSS I like your idea as well, I will post the results when I am wiser.

Following up for anyone else in the same boat, I downloaded the relevant documents and headed up to the registration dept. in Cape Town and all good. Not sure what the dealer was complicating the issue for.
Should be legal in a few weeks.
