Air suspension and electrical faults
Hello,
I’ve had my 06 plate disco about a month now (99k) and had an on going issue I’m hoping someone might be able to help me with.
Brief overview:
Hazards started coming on, door unlock, turn ignition off and wouldn’t turn back on. HDC fault came up.
Had this looked at and the LR specialist plugged in and thought it was a faulty wire to passenger door. Fixed it, then driving again and it did it again only the park break fault came on instead of HDC. Then it just wouldn’t start at all. Battery was fine. Starter motor had gone.
Could hear park break was a second or so longer than should be so went to get shoes and disks changed and wound back and new starter motor fitted.
Driving again and the hazards came on again but no doors unlocking. Turn off and wouldn’t turn on again.
Next day LR guy came again and couldn’t find anything wrong in his own words (uses full diagnostics and LR diagnostics)
Drove it again and hazards came on doors unlocked.
Having read a lot on here I’m thinking it’s either the instrument pod or some wire somewhere - possibly linked to the air suspension which I measured last night/this morning and the front both sides had sunk 2” (took fuse out overnight).
Bought an icarsoft diagnostics and that showed:
Clear all codes except ATCM (U0416-94)
Then two lights come on dash and don’t go
HDC fault comes up when turning off
Then turn back on and back to normal but all fault codes back again
11/13 faults - cleared them but two stayed
ATCM
BCM
And it also set off two dash lights, then the HDC fault as turning ignition off
But then turn back on again to no dash lights/HDC but all faults back again
Has anyone has this before or similar?
I’d be really grateful for any help or advice to what to get done as I’m a young lass living alone and rely on the car to fit my dogs in and get to work.
Many thanks
Beca

These vehicles require a very good battery. With nothing working battery should be around 12.5 volts. After starting, initially you should see around 14 volts or a bit more. Check there is a good earth from battery negative side to the engine.

Hi Globetrotter448,
Just checked battery volts:
11.78
14.59
And the earths are fine (only one couldn’t check chassis to chassis I think)

11.78 volts is a dead battery. Charging voltage looks ok.
Get a new battery before you try anything else, but make sure you get a good battery, or you'll be having the same issues again very soon.Richard

Hi Richard,
Oh hell, thanks. Is there a battery you’d recommend?
Frustrating as everyone who’s looked at it said it’s fine
Many thanks

I've recently bought a Yuasa YBX5019. 100Ah 900A CCA.
There has been a lot of discussion on here over the years about best battery. I used to prefer Bosch or Varta, but I think the quality has declined recently. A lot of folks here like the Exide 019.
Get something with 4 or 5 years guarantee, at least the manufacturer thinks it'll last that long!Richard

Update!
Changed the battery to the Exide 019, voltage is 12.6 now.
Drove it and within 5 miles the hazards came on doors unlocked and locked again. No faults or lights on dash

Does the speedo stop working ,if so chances are its a speed sensor problem , the dust rings on the drive shaft to protest the exciter rings can rust and wear through the sensor.tinted windows

Update:
After another job lot of diagnostics yesterday, took the car out whilst hooked up and turns out when the hazards go off everything stops communicating to the instrument pod.
Taken out and sent off this morning for fixing.
Will post an update once it’s back.

She works!
Update:
Sent the instrument cluster pod off, two weeks later had it back and fitted and all issues seem to have been fixed (touch wood)!
I’m starting a vlog to document all work going forward, including my working labs and camping, feel free to follow my journey
