Sunroof leak - still unbelievable
As per my previous post, my new (to me) 2016 D4 has (had) got a swimming pool in both sides.
I still find it quite unbelievable that on a 2016 car, the drain rubber has perished to the extent shown below. Water straight from the drain into the car!
I know, I know, but come on, it's a bit much and a real pita to get to!

Historically sunroofs in Land Rovers have not been good. I recall having a Disco 2 with two, which could have been advertised accurately as twin shower rooms. I see things haven't changed much in that department.

my son has recently bought a very nice 68 plate VW Tiguan with the opening pan roof.
He noticed quite quickly that the air con wasnt working so it ended up at VW to diagnose and fix under warranty.
The reason it wasnt working was that it had shut down for safety reasons.
The sunroof drain had blocked on the front nearside A pillar, water had then overflowed into the A pillar, and got into an electrical connector that contained wiring for the air con system and shorted the pins out.
The fix involved having the whole dashboard out, A pillar, roof lining and carpet being removed and a new wiring loom installed.
So this isnt just confined to LR sunroofs 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

I've been delinquent on clearing the sunroof drains on my 65 plate D4 which I've had nearly 3yrs now, mad really as I did them once a year on my D3.
On the D3 the main issue appeared to be the (UK) nearside drain that went all the way down to behind the fusebox, my Offside one that ended in the wing vent appeared to cope better.
Can anyone confirm the situation with the D4?
As it has wing vents on both sides do both drains end in the wing vents?
Or does the nearside one still end behind the fusebox?

They drain out into the cavity (within the wing) just behind the air vents. If you take the air vents out you can see the end of them. Both rubber bends (at the bottom just before they go out into the wing) had perished on mine (also a MY16) and water just ran straight into the car.
Nearside was a pita as the CJB had to come out. No fun whatsoever, but both now replaced.

You get the whole pipe and joiner - I just fitted the new end bits to the original pipe.
Cheers

That's exactly what I did when I replaced them on my D3.
Replacing the whole pipe is a whole world of pain in comparison, and it's only the Rubber end that appears to degrade anyway.
I did use a couple of blobs of Superglue to make sure they stayed on the end.
I find Gorilla GEL Super Glue works best on that type of thing as it's formulated differently to the more runny stuff and appears to stick Plastics much better.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Yes me to, why have all that dust and noise when all I need to do is set my climate control to the temperature I want and off I go. Glad I chose the base model with less to go wrong.

Where's the fun in that? You haven't been able to lie upside down on damp carpets with most of the skin removed from the back of your hands as you try to remove the CJB, wondering if the car will start again, all to change a £4 rubber grommet that LR opted to make out of cheese.
Hang on a minute...
