Gearbox lurching

Hi, I have had my gearbox and torque converter refurbished. All has been well until last week, so around 2000 miles.

I reverse off my drive and up a steep hill, in a manual car you slip the clutch and keep the revs up and move slowly. If your foot were to slip off the clutch then suddenly you will have direct drive and the car will lurch away.

On the auto the torque converter acts as a clutch and slips and you move slowly and the revs keep up. The problem is that suddenly the converter locks up and you lurch off, akin to slipping your foot off the clutch.

There is nothing in the gearbox fault codes. It is all clear

So I have had a look and there is an electronic lock up and unlock system. I am wondering if anyone can shed light on this it has experienced something similar.

Thanks

Before I messed with it I would be talking to the guys who did the refurb as im guessing it came with some sort of warranty?

Gearbox

Yes I am talking to them. But they had my car for 45 days, excuse after excuse. I dont have any faith in them and really I dont want them to ever touch it again.

Well I would be talking to a specialist ZF agent as they are pretty bombproof if looked after correctly ,sometimes you just have to suck up the cost.
It maybe a good idea to get an oil sample from the box as they can test for contaminants that will indicate if something has failed internally.

You could try to reset the transmission adaptive values and see if it makes any difference

I second resetting the transmission adaptive values. Should be simple to enough to do and I believe non invasive / expensive...

Gearbox

I considered that, I have an iid so can do it, I wanted the gearbox company to have a chance first. To add, a bit of experimentation. Gearbox cold first start, reverse off drive. Lockup happens. When warm, exactly the same manoeuvre no problem. This morning gearbox cold, drove off forward and up the hill. No problems
