FBH Water Pump not working

Hello together,

du to the cold weather in southern Germany I did a priming and a test routine with my nancom. Everything just worked fine. This morning the FBH started right after the engine start. Even last year I have noticed, that my nanocom always tells me the status of the water pump as „off“.
Can you tell me the exact reasons for the pump working? Should it start pumping right away? I’m wondering why the Nanocom tells me „off“.

Nanocom can tell you everything, but everything operates as needed you mention…

If you put a long screwdriver against the webasto waterpump and your ear (with the webasto running) you can hear if it works or not….

Normally if the FBH unit detects a malfunctioning part, like the waterpump or dosingpump it does not going to operate….

By the way NEVER prime the fuel line! ( if you did not pulled a new one…)

Seems that everybody with a webasto diagnostic capable tool, has to push the prime button Big Cry
It is diesel, NOT gasoline/benzin, it does not need extra fuel to start, as diesel does not evaporate without high pressure

Thanks for your reply!
Since the rubber hoses going in and out of the water pump are cold even with the FBH running, I thought the pump is not working…What does the Nanocom need to show „pump on“? I will have to check the voltage for the pump…
Secondly my engine needs a lot of time to heat up.

Check the way i suggested, with a screwdriver..

If you pull the waterpump plug when the fbh is running, the fbh goes in ERROR!

If the FBH starts and keeps running (so does not overheat, which it will very quick if there is no waterflow) it heats up the coolant… BUT only 2 deg celcius each cycle, that is why a 2.7 or 3.0l v6 needs an hour to fully heat up to 75 deg celcius in cold climates…. There is a lot of cold metal to be warmed up (cold metal cools the coolant again)

Only 2 degrees per cycle?! That sounds in fact completely useless to me…

That is a strange statement TBH…. “Useless?”

It is simply physics …. A max 5kw burner and a LOT of coolant and hundreds of kilo’s metal to warm up from below zero…
(Below zero metal does cooling down the heated fluid straight away)

You did choose such a big engine yourself, A toyota aygo will warm up far more quickly with a 5 kw FBH

A 10 kw burner will be twice as big, is there room in your car for that? Uses twice the amount of battery capacity and fuel…. Etc. Etc.

Hi Harold,
completely useless was more a exaggeration. I really wasn’t aware of the fact that it’s only 2K per cycle.
I had a 3 liter Mercedes OM642 V6 Diesel engine which heated up way more quickly…that’s why I’m wondering about the long time it takes with the TDV6.

Since I have to change my heater matrix I could also change my thermostat, after 16 years and 280.000km.

yeahh i understand, exaggeration is ""quite modern" these days, i can not get used to that phenomenon tbh.. Wink


the cabin heater was more quick in your Merc, because of an "short cut" valve, who made it possible to prioritize the cabin..

you can add one in the Disco if you want..
