Why don't you contact Traxide. They do an excellent split charging system especially for the D3/D4
They are very helpful!!
I have one of their systems in my D5 and have had their systems in my D3 and RRS

Just to confuse things a little, I believe (and happy to be corrected) but the vast majority of D4s sold in Ireland were 5 seat commercial, called Crew Cabs with a separate vehicle designation N1 (I had one MY15, now have a 7seat HSE MY14). These were a different spec and didn't have the varying voltage / smart alternator. But the 7 seat models and HSEs over here did - but these are only a very small percentage of vehicles sold here. Also, the majority of the vehicles did not have low box and are missing the controls for it, near the gear selector, strange for commercial vehicles.

That sounds strange, why would they not put a smart alternator in the NI D4s
Also sounds even more strange, leaving out the low ratio box.
And surely, if any model needed it, it would be the commercial.

Thanks Moo, that’ll do for me.
Seems enough folk have been running VSR with smart alternators with no issues.
And with a for the Durite VSR relay, I’ll now go for that 140 amp 7 mtre wiring kit I was looking at.

Just remember DO NOT connect the auxiliary battery negative directly to the main battery negative post. Use one of the body ground studs.
The main battery negative terminal has the current sensor built into it so it needs to ‘see’ the auxiliary battery load to charge it correctly.MY14 TDV6

Thanks for the tip.
