Cabin air cool on Passenger side |
|
Gents,
Noticed yesterday that the passenger side air in the cabin is blowing cool - not cold cold thankfully, through all but one face vent which is warm (far passenger side) Driver's side vents are all nice and warm.
First thought was matrix (as I gather these are known for silting...) can a cooling system service and matrix flush revive them or is it new matrix time? Parts aren't too expensive, just need time and my big boy brave pants to remove the entire dashboard...
Before I do any of that (as you can appreciate I'd rather not take out the dash if there are other checks to make), are there any other things it could be? Easy checks to make? On my old BMW E39, the climate grilles with the sensors behind used to get clogged with dust and fool the system into thinking the cabin was warmer than it actually was, and thus blow colder air... the fix was to vacuum out the vents! Any tricks like that work on these?
I read the codes and the only one on HVAC was low refrigerant pressure, but can't see how that would have a bearing, especially as it's too cold for the compressor to kick in. The low refrigerant pressure code in itself is annoying, as the system was re-gassed late last year so I would imagine there is a leak somewhere...

I flushed mine. Remove the connectors in the engine bay and pressure wash through both ways. I put radiator flushing fluid through as well. Worked a treat.
Steve. You remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!

Ideal, that makes me feel a bit better! It’s trying to heat the passenger side - the vents get warm, but not as warm as the drivers side. They then cool off (discovered on the way home - makes me think maybe a temp sensor) Still, a flush and coolant change isn’t a bad idea, so that will get done when I get time.
How are these to bleed up? My old Bmw e34 and e39 were easy - my 9 month old daughter could bleed them - but my wife’s old mini was a pig. Somewhere between the two? Haha

The flush does help some people as a previous poster said. Didn’t help me. If it’s gunked up good enough the only remedy is indeed the replacement of the heater core, unfortunately.
Bleeding the diesels is easier than the petrol versions.
