Viscous Fan Mod Issue

Hi all (again)

Recently had my damaged viscous fan replaced in the last heatwave due to overheating twice found it was broke

Got a used one installed by indie but it seems to always be on and increase with revs. Seems to be bypassed. But the mechanic is adamant the whirring noise with revs is the thrust bearing in clutch (I’m 100000% certain its not) I can hear the fan increase at 2k revs (also do have dodgy thrust bearing noise)

Anyways…

Now it’s freezing I’m wondering is it safe to unplug my viscous fan to drive around please?

Or just it be plugged in?

I might buy a used fan off eBay today as to fix the issue… but wondered what I can do while I await its delivery

Don’t want to add cold to engine when it’s already cold

Also it may be using a lot of power being bypassed and adding to
My other power drain issue recently been fixing?

Tia

If it were me I would unplug it for a week and see if there
Was any difference. (Don’t think there will be, except adding a fault code )

And if it makes no difference, plug it back in before you forget!

Cheers!!! As always

I bought a used one today

I’ll unplug this one and see what happens then while it’s cold!

And I don’t know they are usually vague with me. Just said the fan is working

But when I rev the fan activates. I’m certain it shouldn’t increase fan rpm when revving?

Darent take it back as it’s always a big bill and I feel at times unnecessary

They have said on 3 occasions now it’s the thrust bearing but it’s the fan definitely haha

As well as the bearing too but it’s not relevant to this issue in my opinion

The fan is primarily driven from the engine so it will increase with speed.

The electrical connector increases the drive if the air con is on or engine coolant hot. Etc.
it also monitors fan speed

I’m thinking it’s been bypassed somehow as I don’t recall it ever being so noisy

I’ll do a video of the current fan, no fan, and new (used) fan and update and see what the difference is

It does seem less noisy now driving! Used to really whir

BUT my engine temp gauge now dropping when stationary - is this normal mate? I thought it was supposed to stay half way once up to temp
