Things I miss
FBH V “Departure Pre-conditioning”
It was only when my neighbour said to me this morning that “I bet you miss getting into a nice warm car on a morning like this”, that I realised I do actually miss wisps (clouds ?) of smoke from the front, and the sound of the FBH running. It also used to dramatically defrost most of the bonnet, allowing for the adoption of the Clarkson-esque superior “Smug Mode” facial expression, whilst watching lesser mortals fruitlessly scraping their windscreen with a now-worthless credit card, smearing the glass as they go with bloodied knuckles…all while swearing like Gordon Ramsay through chattering teeth.
“I do have the facility actually, I can pre-set the time in my App” I countered to my ill-informed neighbour in a slightly condescending tone, “it’s running at the moment” (the pristine glass all-round must have eluded him)
But I did have to concede that the weedy thawed evidence atop the bonnet, provided by near-silent electric under-bonnet heaters most certainly lacks the drama of the FBH.
There’s no doubting the Teutonic heating efficiency of my BMWs “pre-departure conditioning”, it’s unquestionably brilliant…...and I take back every word I said when regularly suggesting heated steering wheels were for the less manly amongst us…..I now consider them to be “Mans Greatest Invention”….but it definitely lacks the visual and aural drama of the much-maligned FBH.
Now, I just need to find a way to explain to my wife that we aren’t “still ok this Winter if it snows, as we have 4-wheel drive”
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I still miss the curry hook from D2 days, even though my body is a temple and I don’t do takeaways.

No dramatic smoke and turbine noises from the new Defender. Just the same old half defrosted screen!
At least I can remote start the engine from anywhere in the world, not sure how efficient that is compared to a good old Webasto!

That doesn’t apply to Monday mornings and Friday afternoons, and occasionally midweek, not sure they even get to the heady heights of “that’ll do”.

C’mon Euan, stop mucking about with the Germans, when are you going to get back into a proper motor …. late D4 or New Defender.
You know you need to.
Oh, and it would be good to see you back where you belong. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I'm not convinced that DD isn't still lurking. There's a member with more than one similarity!! Today is the oldest you've been and the youngest you'll ever be again.

DD was openly posting on the Deafner site couple of years ago. No idea if still the case though.

Thanks Ron. When I was looking around, the X5 PHEV was the only one with a workable electric range for my needs (it does around 55miles on a single charge) …..all the offerings from LR only offered just over 20 (same with the XC90).
Of the 20k miles I’ve done, 14k has been on electric only…..it would have been substantially less in an alternative product
The new LR PHEVs offer a much better range, so I may well make a return to the fold in the next couple of years "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
