Faulty battery after earth lead replacement
Evening all..
So had the dreaded yesterday.. took the kids to school.. came home and parked up..
Went to go and collect from school and it wouldn’t start.. assumed a flat battery with the cold although seemed doubtful.. so quickly diagnosed a broken earth strap 😫
Called the local Indy who happened to have one on the shelf..
I stripped the OSF wheel, arch, inner arch and upper wishbone, also some of the heat shielding..
It was a pig but made easier by cutting down one of my old 10mm spanner’s so it fitted behind the suspension turret.
Anyway, refitted and built back up, but it’s wa still showing low battery, I took it for a good blast, cleared all the faults with a GAP BTiid.
Charging was good at 14.2v.. got home locked it and let it go to sleep.
It started ok this morning but still brought the error message of a low battery and is showing 12.2v which is obviously a poorly battery 🪫
Is this just a coincidence? Or am I missing something?
I’ve order a new battery from Tayna which will be here tomorrow but don’t want to fry another battery if I’m missing something simple..
I don’t have a smart charger but do have a standard one, either way it’ll have the new battery tomorrow and I’ll charge that one and use it for the electric fence..

Charging should be nearer 14.6v for an AGM battery on a D4 depending on how the test was done, a quick “blast” will not charged the battery, in fact the difference in charging rate at tick over and 2000+rpm is minimal.
The” low battery” warning on D4’s is very sensitive, if the battery is wet cell not AGM disconnect it and put your charger on overnight. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It’s an AGM.
Sorry I didn’t mean quick blast, it was more like an hour and a quarter..Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

That should put more than 12.2v into it, 12.2v across the battery terminals with nothing connected is virtually a flat battery, get your jump leads ready It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Yeah that’s what I thought.. the voltages are taken from the dash when the iid is plugged in..
It’s actually showing 14.6 on the iid and 14.2 at the top of the screen..

Just seemed odd that the earth strap snapped and at the same time my battery died..Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

14.6v is the charging current the battery is receiving at 1500rpm which shows the alternator is good.
The battery would be low when the earth strap gave up through the starter load.It can when others can't,
