Frozen foam when opening the bonnet - is it needed
So, tried to open the bonnet this morning, and the foam blocks near the A pillars were frozen, and stuck to the A pillar plastic.
They've ripped off the bonnet on both sides and stuck to the pillar
Are they really needed? or just a bit of sound deadening?
Thanks in advance

Hello, i’m new to the forum and was searching for a problem with a whistling noise from te A pillars.
i stumbled on to your conversation and wanted to share my thoughts.
From what I found, is that the intention of the foam blocks is to prevent water slipping into the A piller and entering the misplaced hole that is hidden there. From the hole it can enter the car and the footwell.
Water will enter the A pillar with rain at high speeds if the foam block wasn’t there.
This leads to second problem with the car.
The hole I am referring to, (see attached photo) should be covered according to a service bulletin that was issued by land rover in 2005 (!) in my belief the problem is still real today.

Using a foam block seams stupid a idea, because mine froze up as well and made the A pillar deform.
I have ordered new covers for the A pillars, and a new cowl, hoping to solve the noise and prevent leaking. (Which I also have)
I also have a link to a you tube video covering this subject. Hope it helps.
Greetings, Sander

Don’t forget to order new clips as well as the old ones shouldn’t be re-used

Thanks for your advice, I did. With the service bulletin there is an order available. It contains tape to cover the holes, and clips to renew them all.
And if i’m wrong with my assumptions, or i’m missing something, I would be glad to hear!
