Replacing the Smart Key Battery
I have got a note on my dash saying the the smart key battery needs replacing.
Is it just a matter of taking the old battery out and replacing it?
Does anything need to be done BEFORE i remove the battery?
Do i go to LR to buy a battery or get one from elsewhere?Mud Flaps - Slimer

Coin battery from eBay about £1 each for Duracell.
Pretty sure it explains how to change them in the manual

A little be confused. I have 2008 D3 model and until today I don´t have any problems with the key batteries, only 2 years??
I see in the photo that key in D4 is a little different from D3, there is not release bottom.

I thought the D3 charged itself up in the ignition slot - hence the need to toggle the usage

Yes, the D3 key fob is a sealed unit with a rechargeable battery soldered in place; induction charging when the key is close to the ignition barrel. As GlosBoy says, one needs to alternate key usage to keep them both charged. I have one original key (7 & 1/2 years use), and one replacement (other lasted about 5 years). I did perform a battery swap on the failed one, but it was the charging circuit that had failed, as the new battery lasted only a few weeks.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

interesting.
What I do is change keys every two years, and until now almost 5 years without problems.
I know a friend who change battery and and you have to be very carefully to open

D4 uses a totally different system to D3.
CR2032 battery for D4 is a replacement and not a rechargeable as with D3.
A better system in my view.

I just got the "low battery" warning and I'm trying to change the battery. The key looks loke the one from the handbook but it does not open fully. What do I do wrong?
