Help with Wheels and Tyres for my D4 |
|
Hi All,
My D4 currently has 19 inch 10 spoke alloys with 255/55/19s and I would like a more rugged look so I am considering changing to 18 Inch with AT Tyres.
Also has anyone got a picture of a D4 with 19 inch wheels and AT Tyres as if it looks good enough I may consider just having the wheels powder coated black and putting a more rugged looking tyre on them.
I am just considering my options and if I have to save up for 18's then I will but the ones I am looking at are either the Tuffant Kimberleys or the EVO Corse DakarZero which are £2400 and £2520 respectively with BFG KO2's.
Also which AT tyres would you recommend for mainly road use?
Thanks

I run BFG A/T on the D2 & whilst not mud pluggas they have a 'presence' & have worked well on & off road on this car as well as previously on 110 & 90 Defenders I've owned.
Alternatives might be Falken Wildpeak or General AT3, or the good old Duratrac? D4 - Stornoway Grey
D2 V8 - Zambesi Silver (rust free JDM import 😎)
FL2 - Sd4 HSE
110 Td5 DCPU - Bonatti Grey - sold
FL2 Td4 - Zambesi Silver - sold
D2 Td5 - Epsom Green - sold
F1 Td4 - Giverney Green - sold
90 300 Tdi - White – sold BIG mistake should have kept it!
F1 Td4 - written off by a taxi!
D1 300 Tdi - written off by a Fiesta...
D1 200 Tdi - sold
90 Turbo Diesel - sold
Ser 2a SWB - sold and glad I 'got rid'
Ser 2 SWB - sold but wish I still had it!

I had Compomotive PD1881’s on my D4’s.
I stayed with the standard size 255-60-18 tyre. Which suited my needs well, shod with Pirelli ATR’s. Which may still be available in 18”.
I’d probably go with AT+, but we all have different requirements. I want a tyre that’s behaves well on road and is better than a road tyre off road.
I have GG AT3’s on my FFRR and no complaints about them but I am wary about their sidewall strength.

Should add, whilst there’s no dispute over the quality of Compomotive, they supply Bowler after all, there are now cheaper 18” alternatives for the D4. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Thanks for the help all.
I had a look at the compomotives but prefer either the Tuffant Kimberleys or the EVO Corse or maybe even the Tuffant Pilbara Steel wheels. I really like the Simpsons the best but they do not seem to be available any more.
