Disco 3 - Ulez and LPG ......

Hi all..

I Live in West London and will fall within the extended ULEZ (within the M25) in August 23.

Don't want to sell the Disco (2.7 D) - I love it too much...

I am going considering LPG - Is there anyone here that has done this conversion? I have googled but would be good to get a recomendation..

Thanks in advance for your help..!

I don’t know anyone who has converted a diesel engine to run on lpg.

I think the cost to convert and the inevitable headache to get it registered as being ULEZ compliant, if that’s even possible, would make it impractical. Crying or Very sad

You’d be better off looking for a V8 D3, which is currently ULEZ compliant as it’s EU4. Thumbs Up

I think you are, sadly, wasting your time.

Oliver Lord, principal policy adviser for planning at Transport for London said:

Quote:
"ULEZ requirements are based upon the Type Approval status of the vehicle (i.e. the Euro standard). An aftermarket LPG conversion does not change the type-approval status of the vehicle."

I do understand that they are accepting LPG conversions for taxis though !

I currently live in the ULEZ zone, but don't need to drive my D3 every day. It's costing me £50-150 per month which I've decided is worth it to keep the D3 until I move out.

Ubers drive around with those 3D licence plates which I have been told are very difficult to read by the ANPR cameras... I've not got involved though.

Would agree that I don't think it's worth converting your diesel D3 to LPG...

Thats a real shame... but good to know before I started the process...

The Disco is used 80% for motorway driving with the family of 6 - There is just not a better 7 seater out there Crying or Very sad

V8 D3 though..... Thats interesting......

Thanks for the help!

It's too late for me as I live in the existing zone, but I wouldn't rush into getting rid of your D3 even if you decide you wouldn't be able to afford the monthly cost. There seems to be a fair bit of resistance building to this expansion plan, and I'd say that there's a fair chance at least that it won't go ahead or will be quickly reversed.

At the end of the day I love my disco and fortunately can live with the £12.50 charge each time I drive it. Couldn't justify it if it was every day, but similar to you I use it for long trips so not too frequent, maybe 5-10 days per month.

If you have the parking and funds and frequently need to drive locally, you could get a little petrol run around for £1-2k that's compliant Thumbs Up

Iv been on this case for a while now, tfl only accept lpg converted taxi cabs iv got a fullfat rangerover converted to lpg it's a petrol engine but they refuse to accept any other conversions. Don't even bother trying to get anywhere with tfl.

Have now bought a V8 D3 to replace the wife's tdv6 it's the only car that transports x5 adults x1 wheel chair and x2 dogs in comfort.

It's not about clean air............

Are these D3 V8 you speak of petrol or Diesel, just curious.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Petrol 4.4 v8 jag engine, only 300 left in the country here is our new 1

I'm been getting it ready as the wife's new daily driver. At some point in its life someone did a D4 conversion on it with colour codes exterior and genuine landrover rear lights.

Another couple of weeks and it should be ready.

It's parked in a driveway so is not on the road so thats a good thing - Have seen the opposition to this and am hoping it builds up momentum.

I'm getting there with it slowly but surely, full electric polish after a few snow foam washes. Body work is pretty good some surface rust underneath that will get a gentle sand blast then treated and under coated in the spring.
New brakes going on soon when I do the lower front control arms. Engine is having a full service plus all other fluids.

Should prob start a new thread on progress so far.
