i have spent 2 days searching for a recomending good OBD2 reader
a simple result and nothing
While driving down a motorway the usual driver type that has no use that there is an indicator pulled over so i pressed brake
3 faults fault issue, brake issue then Height fault and special heights and the car lost height
if i stop raise height i can drive till brake and same fault so i need a reader. at present replacing all discs and brakes to see if it is an issue but fault reader is needed

As above, Gap IID if you have the money (around £300) and want to be able to change and code on the car. For a reader that allows you to calibrate suspension, programme keys read all the codes go for the white version of the Autel (around £50) quick search here on both will give you loads of info on he pros and cons 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Autel AP200, white available from autelstore.co.uk for £49.
Does not this problem sound like a possible faulty brake switch?.
Anyone with experience?.

When the pads wear down the sensor is worn through and becomes open circuit. It is possible that pressing the sensor on the disc might cause the fault light to go out whilst the brake is on. If this is what is happening and the pads are worn you could cut the sensor leads, take off a little of the insulation and twist the bare ends together. This mimics a good sensor.
When changing the front sensor there is a connector hidden in the inner wing which if it corroded could mimic a worn sensor.
The sensors can be tricky to change as they come with a spring clip. This is good because the old ones tend to ping off when the sensor is removed. The sensors also harden with age and can break up when handled.
The wear sensors should not impact on the suspension but I know that the brake switch is notorious for causing spurious faults.
No experience of this myself, I just carry a spare.

They state they are “available and in stock” but I’ve tried to buy one four times now (2 different suppliers) and every time they take the money and then say “ problem at the warehouse, order will be delayed” first time I believed it and waited three weeks before asking for a refund... fourth time? well..... you can get them from Amazon I think but at a £20 markup at least... I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Dean, I've mentioned the brake switch twice so far but nobody with more experience has confirmed it as a possible cause. Good suggestion re brake bulbs.
Nigel, sorry to post incorrect info on AP200 availability.

sorry, should read more thoroughly
Being a D4 owner, the "bulb thing" isn't a thing for me but I've seen it mentioned in so many threads ... the only thing I DON'T think it has been a cause of is leaking sunroof drains !
