Gear selector won’t calibrate, what next? |
|
So, have a D3 manual tdv6 2005. It has the gear selector on the dash taking a few seconds to register, so throws the Amber parking brake light on the dash and a transmission fault (code reader points to xy gear selector), and reverse lights don’t work until clutch fully released for at least 1-2 seconds.
I’ve run through the xy gear sensor calibration routine as found on the forum and in the LR Workshop manual, but still have the problem, so now not sure what to try next, any pointers? (I wonder if the calibration is taking, or I’ve read a few times about update the software on the sensor but no idea how to do that)
Don’t think it needs a new xy sensor (I hope as not sure how to change it as located top of the gearbox) as it will register gear when clutch fully released after 1 or 2 seconds.
Help!

Is this what you tried??
Select low ratio drive of in first let your foot of clutch completely
Push clutch pedal to the floor select second foot of clutch completely
Same again all gears up to six low put in reverse foot of clutch completely hey presto
I ask as this worked a treat for me!

Yep that’s the routine I tried multiple times, but still no joy.

Hmmmm - I am still learning my way around the D3 - only had ours a fe wweeks - although am a long time Range Rover and other Land Rover models driver for over 20 years - so I cannot be certain, but it could indeed be the XYZ switch, alas this means a gearbox out to replace from what i have read.
I hope it isn't that, but a trip to a dealer to perform a calbration and ensure the software is up to date may be on the cards!

Software can cause this issue, but very rarely. Doesn't have to go to a dealer, most decent indy specialists will be able to update for you
If it won't calibrate, then you may need to clean the magnets
