Temperature gauge at the start of journeys

Hey all,

Has anyone experienced this issue?

My temperature gauge gets upto temperature when warming the engine but then it drops to the bottom of the gauge shortly after. I keep getting warm air from the vents and then it eventually rises back to the middle of the dial.

My guess is the engine is warming up, opening the thermostat and the cold water in the radiator is going past the temperature sensor and that is eventually warming up but I’ve never had it happen with any other vehicle this way.

Had this on my D3, it was the oil temperature sensor.

Do you have a scan tool? As above check both coolant and oil temp during warm up. Oil will take a bit longer to come up to temp than the coolant

Thanks both I need to get a scanner asap really. I’ll try that and see if it’s the oil sensor!
