Engine Fault, Discovery 4

Evening all, back in the UK after a few weeks in Spain ,car broke down on the way to Santander ferry managed to get home with a lot of help. The engine cut out with no warning and is continuing to act in this way. At the moment it's at a local garage who have good reputation but are unable to locate the cause of the problem, I couldn't drive it as far as a l/r garage. When the engine stops it will not restart for up to 45 minutes ,the engine emissions light comes on and message engine emission fault, my garage can't find the cause , the car is all up to date with servicing ,only 29,000 plus miles on the clock. The garage think's the cause has some thing to do with heat after the engine has cooled a little it will restart then will drive a short way and cut out again. I will be greatfull of any help to solve this problem, Many thanks, Denis.

29k miles in 7 years!- I’d guess at a blocked DPF or possibly a blocked fuel filter, when was it last changed?-but I’m no expert, you need to get the fault codes read. Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

DPF all clear ,a contact from L/r dealer has passed on info to my local garage seams to be narrowed down to a sensor in the exaust system. I may be lucky and they will sort it, without having to truck it to L/R.

@blackdog1

I would suspect the addblue sensor is blocked if it has this system fitted, once unblocked it should be fine.

Flack Thumbs Up

Thanks for that Flack, the local garage are checking the sensors, car has the adblue system , I'll just have to bear with the garage and give them time to go through the system, Denis.

Min would not start the other day. No explanation. Was cold, the next day it was warm. Suspect first the fuel filter, but the suspected freezing the tank lid, but agin no conclusion. Maybe unscrew the tank lid to make sure there is no vacuum in the tank.

Car collected and taken to l/r garage. Problem was caused by the Crank sensor ,which controls many things .
