lower front ball joint
So, MOT passed but with an advisory on the ball joint cover.
Both wishbones were replaced before I bought the car as one of the bushes failed one side on the way for MOT/prep pre-sale.
Quite staggering as I have only put 8K in milage, as the joint is good I will replace the cover/boot.
Before I start, is it possible just to separate the ball joint from the knuckle and therefore do it in situ or more involved as I can't find a definitive demonstration/instruction online.

You can get the ball joint out of the hub with the arm on the car, you do need to remove the driveshaft from the hub to get enough clearance.

Thanks Jamiehol,
Just waiting for a ball joint splitter before I take another look, you think you are are tooled up and then there's always something else to add.

Well that was a total pain just for a split/perished boot!
However I did learn a few things, the largest boot in the kit I got from ECP was still a bit small (good job the rubber stretches).
The ball joint separater is too small, however should need it for my daughters Meriva it will be ok.
On the plus side the ball joints I needed to separate did so with only a little persuasion I now have the old boot to get a better sizing (should there be one out there).
Also I found that I have the later style hub nut which doesn't get staked and and requires just 230nm torque which is handy as my wrench just goes up to 330nm.
I now have everything cleaned and antiseized should I have to strip it out again!
