Removeable towball "security" plate.
I gave in and purchased a security plate that bolts in place to secure the removeable towball. Not that I had any issues previously, but figured for 5 minutes time and a few quid, it gives another level of assurance
All good and fitted it for our trip last week, but just wanted to check the fit. As you can see from the photos, it doesn't sit flush with the part of the chassis that the towball slots into.. Looking at it, I guess this is the only way it can work, just wanted to check I am not being stupid, or got a bad plate.
Also, anyone got any ideas about securing the nuts to the rear of the chassis, to save scrabbling around with a 19mm spanner and clearance with the spare tyre ?
Cheers

That's perfect. If it didn't clamp against the taper, the towball could still rattle in the socket.Richard

The bolt opposite the green knob(photo 2) doesn't look right to me, almost like it's cross threaded and if that is a flat washer there should not be a gap between the washer and bolt head, sure recipe for it to work loose, give it a good clout up with a hammer to make sure it's fully home.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It will vibrate and loosen standard nuts, I put the bolt in from the top and used Nylock nuts for added piece of mind.
