Rear fog light fuse.

Hello all.

Today i noted that neither of my rear fog lights work and thought as first port of call i would check the fuse.

Well, the handbook does not list a rear fog light fuse so i am stumped! Can any one assist?

Cheers all.

It is a 2015 D4.

Because these lights do not have a fuse, their operation is controlled by the BCM.
Do you have a trailer attached?
Because with the trailer attached, these lights will not turn on.

Or if you even have trailer towing electrics fitted they often have a "cut off switch" in the 7 or 13 pin connector for the rear fogs, if this get gunk in it or gets corroded the pin won't return and the fogs won't come on..

Jackvoyager and nigethecat

Thank you both for your replies. Very much appreciated.

We have a towbar and 13pin socket. At some stage we managed to smash the socket bending it back on its bracket.
So with your comments in mind we plugged in a trailer board and all on the board works perfectly including the fog light.
The socket is mangled to the point that i can not strip it down to have a look and the mangled bracket does not help either so i will get a new bracket and socket and wire those in.

Once more thank you very for taking the time out to reply.

Where are your sockets placed?- mine(genuine LR) are inside the rear bumper very difficult to get damaged, I wouldn't worry to much as we haven't had any fog for the last 15years, its a global warming thing and will get better soon with ULEZ 24 coming into force Whistle It could be an MOT failure as all fitted lamps must work.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

If you have a damaged trailer socket, as you wrote "crushed", I would advise you to cut the cable at the socket itself, because there is a constant 12V power supply in the cable and if there is a short circuit in the crushed socket, it can damage the installation of the car.
After cutting the socket, the fog lights in the car should come back.
Then you will install yourself a second new socket.
Just be careful when cutting because there is constant 12V if it is connected correctly.

Thank you Jackvoyager,

I thought the car turned everything off after a few minutes?

Regardless the damage happened a few weeks ago and nothing untoward has happened so far and as i can still ram a socket in there and all the trailer electrics work fine, including the fog, i will wait until i get the socket as i now need to pull a trailer.

Appreciate the heads up though.

New 13pin socket fitted, the old one was a bit distorted and mashed up so it had to be cut off with an angle grinder.
The old socket was different to the new one. There were two wires joined, black and blue, that fitted into a connection (extra to the 13 pins) that then jumped to the number 2 pin for the fog lights. The distortion of the socket from the impact broke this contact to the number two pin, hence the fog light issues i presume.
So all sorted!
The picture is of the original socket...........well there would be a picture if i could fathom how to attach one![/url]
