Steering Knuckle

Hi folks, so I purchased a complete set of track rods (inner & outer) and I went to replace them, and the sleeve that usually sits inside the steering knuckle, came out (fused to the old tie rod end). Does anyone know the part number for the steering knuckle tapered sleeve? and does anything special need to be done to re-seat it? Thanks.

I've read your question a few times, and I think I've got the jist.

If you are talking about the taper there the track rod end joins the knuckle, I don't believe there is a seperate part?

The tapered sleeve that usually sits inside the steering knuckle is fused to the old tie rod end.
I'm getting told it's not a serviceable part and I need to purchase a complete knuckle! That would be ridiculous, surely.

I see. Pretty sure that's not available separately.

Thanks, Richard.
I think you're right. It's not in any Land Rover parts listing. Sad

I'm told by a Land Rover specialist that they would just heat or 'manipulate' the old sleeve off and re-seat it into the knuckle. Given the part doesn't do anything except locate the tie rod end (once torqued up it doesn't move/ spin etc) then it should be good to go again.

Thanks for your replies.

If you do manage to get it off the old rod end cleanly, I'd be tempted to put it back in the knuckle with some Loctite 638, which is a high strength sleeve retainer. Much stronger bond than normal Loctite thread lock.

One of these should do the trick, and some good heating on the sleeve itself. A press will get it right off, and as rrhool says, Loctite 638 is your friend. Clean and de-grease properly, and it will be there forever.
