Glitter in oil filter.

Hi All,

Just done my 5k oil change on the D3. I always check the oil filter however this time in the bright sun i noticed some very fine silver particle at the bottom of the folds in the the oil filter so I opened it out. This pic does not really highlight them very well and is zoomed right in, but they are magnetic and I am thinking bottom end shells could be due.

Anyone done this with engine in ?

Ta.

Not bottom end, more likely cam shaft caps/shells. Seen it several times before and still going strong!
I wouldn't loose sleep over it. Thumbs Up

There is a coating on the camshaft (chromium based I think) shells which can loose small flakes over time. This is not present on the bottom shells.
