Both brake discs?

Hi,
I replaced all my discs and pads about 6 months ago, the RHS rear has worn and ruined the disc, I'm guessing seized caliper. So my question is, do I need to replace discs on both sides when they're virtually new? I'll be doing pads on both sides obviously and the ruined disc, but what another the good one?

Cheers

Will you do calipers as well?
Personally, I always change things in pairs, it hurts my engineering soul to only do one side! Laughing

I'll be doing both discs, just to be sure. The caliper is actually fine, but the pads on one side have worn out really quickly, which is odd.

What’s the calliper like on the side with the pads that have (hardly) worn evenly?

Callipers aren’t expensive. I’d do them as well on both sides. Saves any future issues.

To answer your question, you will be ok not changing the unworn disc, just drive sedately until the new disc is bedded in, the rears don't work as hard as the fronts on a D3.
This should not have happened as the wear sensor cable is connected to the offside rear wheel and a warning light should have come on before any damage was done to the disc, check the cable is fitted correctly and replace it, for this reason alone fit new pads to both sides.
Main agent would change everything regardless of cost.

IMHO anything safety related should always be replaced as pairs/sets.

You've no doubt got a sticky piston on the side where the pad is fine, hence the other pad wearing quicker.

I'd renew the caliper or have it properly serviced. Thumbs Up

Hi I have had this issue before and it may NOT be the calliper.
I would make sure the calliper piston moves in and out and also put some rubber grease under the rubber seal that should sort out the calliper.
However the issue in my case was the flexi hose to the calliper.
Sometimes it can break down internally and create a sort of one way valve so the pressure is not released on the calliper due to a rubber flap stopping the fluid moving back so the calliper is stuck on.
I noticed this when bleeding the brake, an air bubble didn't move up the tube after i forgot to tighten the bleed nipple.
The flexi pipes that move with the suspension are the fronts and the back but not the one on the calliper but the one at the back that goes from the suspension to the body.

Hope this help and good luck if you are changing the discs go for the v8 conversion bigger disc and carrier same pads and calliper see advanced factor v8 upgrade. Thumbs Up

Hi,

Both calipers are fine, both move freely pistons and pins. I need to replace the socket for the brake pad sensor, so I'll check wear when I do that, but there must be an issue somewhere. I've noticed tgat the brakes aren't great and planned to flush the fluid, but now I'm wondering if that's a side effect of what causing the uneven brake wear.
It may well be worth just doing both calipers to be on the safe side.
Thanks for all the answers BTW.

Change the flexi pipes other wise it could still be the same you said your self the callipers are fine.

Also im not taking about the slider pins im talking about the piston in the calliper

Hi,

The pipes look fine and as I mentioned above, the pistons and sliders are moving freely.

Flapper,

Just reread my reply and it comes across a bit short, sorry I didn't mean to be rude!

None taken

Re the flexible pipe's they may look prefect on the outside (as mine did) but it what's going on inside.

once removed mine would pass fluid one way and be totally blocked the other. (ie calliper will not release)

You can change as many callipers as you like they will all do the same thing.
