D4 alarm keeps going off (new battery and linked bonnet swit

Hello all

Having a problem with my 2011 D4 alarm randomly going off. Searched online and tried the obvious and still no joy.

It seems to go off after a few hours of being locked up. I’m not double clicking the lock to activate the interior sensors. I have fit a new Bosch battery and I have disconnected the bonnet closed switch and linked it out.

On occasions (not every time) when I go to start it, it says battery low, please start engine.

Is there any way to diagnose the alarm system to see what is causing the alarm to go off?

The rear boot switch has been a bit temperamental to open too but when it’s locked up, I can bang the boot and mess with the switch and the alarm doesn’t go off.

Thanks in advance

My thoughts are that it sounds like you have a battery drain issue, and that may be causing the alarm. Have you fitted any new electrical equipment to the car recently ( camera, tow electrics etc)?

Worth checking the earth straps/battery negative cabling.

Thanks for the input, will report back but now you mention it, I’ve recently altered some settings on the dash cam to pick up motion. Wonder if it’s that!

Just in case it's useful, there are also reports of a faulty bonnet latch causing the alarm to go off. Might also be worth checking if you have got to the bottom of it. Search bonnet latch/ alarm on the forum.
Good luck

Thanks for the replies.

Dash cam has been removed. Connections to the battery have been checked and look ok.

Leaving car unlocked and over night the battery is going flat so it seems it’s either a faulty battery (only 6 months old and Bosch) or something is draining the battery. This morning it was so flat that the car would not start.

Not sure if to try a new battery or is there something that could be draining it?

Thanks

Yes, it’s going to be a process of elimination. There’s a lot of info on the forum on quiescent battery drain testing and how to go about doing it. You might want to check that out. I’ve read through it , although never had to do it. It seems you need to be thorough, disciplined and rigorous when doing it.
Hopefully there’ll be others along with more experience and technical input on how to proceed. Good luck
Cheers.

Here’s the topic I had in mind:

Another’s experience with great help from a member called Pete K:

And another that might be useful:

As you can see it’s not uncommon.

Think I have got to the bottom of this. Cleaned up the battery terminals and it hasn’t come back.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions everyone

It's really encouraging when a problem with a D4 is solved simply and easily. Wish that all such issues were so....

It took the power of the forum to sort it, Hardware suggested it on 29th of June Bow down
