Shiny new (to me) D4

Yesterday our new tug arrived, a 2016 D4 Zambezi Landmark. 92k on the clock but in immaculate condition. Just trying to get to grips with the electronics but the FBH remote was nice to have this morning.

The last two are of an additional plug wired across the battery, anyone know what this is for?
A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Wonderful!

Pretty rare in that colour as well I think. Thumbs Up

I can only guess the additional plug was an aftermarket accessory.

looks like a cTEK charger lead.

Agreed. Definitely ctek charger connection. It will allow charging of battery without opening the battery box. Some run it to the grill to avoid having to open the bonnet.
Nice car. Presume belts done?

Yes, can confirm that is a CTEK adapter, fitted one to my car in the same location. Makes it a lot easier maintaining the battery charge.

Moot point on the belts. It has had the 7 year service done as recorded on the Land Rover OSH system which should include the belts. However there is nothing on the record to show belts/pulleys have been supplied yet it does list the Oil/filters. I Have my doubts so the supplier has agreed to the cover being removed so the date of the belt can be checked. I have £2k off the price in case they do need doing.

I am tempted to go the hole hog on the charger lead and install an Anderson plug to connect a slave battery/charger.

Also considering removing the heavy duty hitch (once I have solved the lack of a key) and use the standard hook which I already have, never going to be towing 3.5 tonne with it. An added bonus is it has the tow hook stowage tray behind the trim (Empty).

£2k off the price due to doubt over whether the belts have been done?

Wow…

My recent D4 Commercial came with relatively full Main Dealer service history, but no-one could say if the belts had been done. At 187k, they ‘should’ have been done but it was just too much of a ‘what if…’ for me to ignore.

New belts cost less than £300 at our local specialist (£358 incl the VAT from memory…) and they confirmed that markings on the belts would indicated they had been changed at some stage but I’d rather be safe than regretting it down the line.

Note: that cost was for the front belts - if the back belt goes, it’s ‘just’ the fuel pump element so you stop but don’t trash the engine…

Hi,

ISTR the D4 had a "Timed" rear belt so did a quick search and found this thread,

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic123654...+pump+belt

I have not read it through but it might be worth you 2 doing so, as the D3 pump belt fails you just stop
but
The D4 is a timed pump belt Exclamation

good colour choice by the way

Thumbs Up

I was also of the opinion that the D4 SDV6 pump belt has to be timed, happy to stand corrected if not. My argument was that I wanted to maintain its 100% dealer service record so to keep that the belt change would have to be at stealer prices.

Of course it does have the 84 month digital stamp anyway so it could go somewhere else although I would have to find somewhere that understands the demands of replacing the pump belt. Reading through and watching a few videos it would be something I could do as an ex aircraft engineer (I have had worse jobs) but that was 40+ years ago.

The salesman was unhappy saying my price was the buy in price (not convinced) but I paid £2k less than the automated insurance valuation so it can’t be far off and with 6 months warranty as well. I aim to kick off a bit with LR, last time I did they paid all the cost of a repair 2 months out of warranty despite only actually agreeing to to the labour cost.

Somthing that has occurred to me is I have read of being able to find the oil pump part number using a flexible boroscope. Would it be possible to read the belt date the same way, is there a route into the timing cover?
