Hi all,
Bit of a long story this one so please bare with me, a few weeks back I bought a diesel Discovery 3 SE with an injector issue, turns out the guys mechanic had snapped a bolt swapping the injector out and cocked the whole job up by trying to hold the injector in with lock tight. Got that issue sorted with some help from here but the injector issue was still there, turns out they had read the code wrong and changed the wrong injector. I swapped out the correct injector and the engine ran really nicely, but as soon as the engine warmed up the oil light came on. Since then I changed the oil using oil and a Mahle filter from advanced but the oil light still came on when warmed up. Thought maybe the oil pump was no good so changed out the oil pump for a new FoMoCO one as well as a new cambelt, as soon as I ran it up to temp the oil light came on. Tried one more oil and filter change but the issue is still there, when the engine first starts from cold it sounds perfect with no horrible noises but won’t be running it with the oil light on. Any ideas were I should look next, I bought this one to replace my old one that spun a bearing on out way home from Holiday in June. Don’t really want two broken discoveries on the drive🤣
Thanks
Paul

Have you measured the actual oil pressure? Could be just a faulty pressure switch.

Sorry, I knew I would miss something out, I’ve also fitted a new oil pressure switch. Good shout though, I’ll see if I can lend an oil pressure gauge. Do you know what pressure I should be looking or?
Thanks

Have a search on my posts.
The required pressures are posted on here somewhere.

Are you fitting the filter correctly?- the filter on D3’s has a nipple on the bottom that must be fitted into the corresponding hole in the bottom of the filter housing. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Long shot but are there any other warnings when the oil light is on?
Like "Low washer fluid" on the dash display? Or the pasenger seat belt warning?
I ask because my lad had his oil light stay on after starting and, after the initial panic, we noticed the other dash messages. On investigation the dash needed repairing and, so far, all good. I see no ships........

No other lights when I started it up after the oil pump and belt change. Don’t want to run it too long but will check again in the morning.
Thanks

Could try leaving engine OFF but putting your fog lights ON - obviously with the normal lights on at same time.
My lad also had none of the fog lights on display.
Hope all goes well for you I see no ships........

Appears like the parts cannon is engaged rather then logical symptom investigation. I personally think you need to stop spending money on bits and investigate based on evidence.
I'd personally start by verifying (measuring with a pressure gauge at the oil pressure switch port) the oil pressure before doing anything else. The LR manual states:
Oil pressure @ idle - 0.7 Bar, at 3500 rpm - 1.9 bar.
Test it with a gauge. However as you have swopped the pressure switch the odds are you have low oil pressure.
Did you keep the oil oil filters? - if so cut them open and look for shiny metal on the outside of the paper. If you find shiny particles your bearings are away.
Have you used the correct oil?
Adrian Series one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)
LR 90 - In bits
Disco 3 - currently in bits

Update, as advised here checked the oil pressure today and it’s not good, oil pressure when cold at idle is 7psi and as engine warms up dropped to 5 psi. Only checked it at 2500 rpm once before engine warmed up and it only got to 12 psi. Not sure where to even go from here, I’m assuming this is pointing at crank bearing worn.
Thanks

Sorry about the double post, not sure how I did that, one more update, I’ve opened up both of the oil filters to check for metal and they are both clear, not a single piece of metal. The oil in the engine looks exactly as like the same as when I filled it up, I’ve never seen engine oil so clean??
Thanks
