HDC Fault - Steering wheel angle sensor lock to lock reset

Hi all

I have the HDC fault, special programs not avail message, and 3 amber lights on the dash ,

Car has been standing since November and the battery was totally flat. ( jump started it off a van to move it)

I have replaced the arm on the side of the gearbox where the bush corrodes and makes it hard to move the gear lever and select the auto gearbox into any position. ( not sure if this is anything to do with nit , There is a plug floating about next to it on a sheared metal bracket (with 2 cables in and 2 cables out) that I have resecured to the chassis. not sure what this is for ?

When powered back up I have the above faults after about 100 yards of driving ( turn the car off and they go, drive it again 100yards and they come back on.)

I installed a brand new battery saturday correctly identified from the car registration. No Fix

I have ordered a brake light switch that should arrive tomorrow as a precaution and will change that. All the bulbs are working ok when pressing the brake pedal

I have also read about a steering wheel angle sensor reset after the battery is disconnected, using a lock to lock reset, however using the search box I couldnt find out how its actually done , would someone be able to let me know the sequence as to how to do this please ??

Thankyou in advance !

Did you manage to fix it? Would be interested to find out.

I have the same issue and after reading the thread below, I've ordered an Autel AP200 to have a go at recalibrating the SAS.

So on these the sas sensor is driven by a white bit of plastic on the shaft this comes lose and does not turn with the wheel. Seems to be something that goes more if the car has stood. Check this and maybe glue it to the shaft to fix it.

You can't buy the part unfortunately.

What part of the shaft is said bit of plastic fitted? Where would you find it?

So look under the dash, you may need to remove the cover above the peddles and you should see the sas sensor on the bottom of the steering shaft. You should see two "wings" that fit into the inside of the sas sensor they are a white colour. Turn the wheel and check that it turns with the wheel.

You can't reset the SAS by going lock to lock. Needs done via diag Thumbs Up
