Leaking Injector

Hello All,
Can anyone cofirm if one of the injectors was leaking from the injector body on the 2.7 diesel engine that it would appear as seepage or would it be more obvious due to the high pressure? I have a diesel leak from around one of the rear injectors on my engine and I had assumed that it was a leaking return pipe but the garage I have it in are telling me that it is the injector! Given the high pressures involved and the perfect way the engine is running do you think that they are just trying to sell me an injector? They are saying that they will have to change the return pipe as well as it will probably break when they take it off. I might be cynical but seems to me that they are just trying to sell me an injector. I have told the service chap that I want to see a cleaned injector running and the diesel coming out of the body before I will buy one. He said he will have a word with the technician and come back to me. I am now waiting for his reply..........!!!!????

Could you not change 2 injectors over, and see if the leak moves?

When I had a fuel leak, it was the fuel leak off pipe from the Injector. Fair bit of fuel dripping down behind the offside front wheel.

Cheapest and most likely cause I would have thought.

Just don't drop and loose the retaining clip ! I did Big Cry replaced with a modified paper clip Thumbs Up

The last thing you want is this ............

well, to be honest allowing any injector to leak is not a good thing for the engine so I would personally ask em for the dynamic offset balances (printed) to show you what readings each injectors are showing, then go from there, change the fuel feed pipe (these can be bought separately) before shelling out on a new injector.

If yer do might I suggest yer pay extra for the OEM LR NON -RECON exchange unit as we seem to be getting thru alot of em at present after only 20k miles on a new engine

Yep, I have just had the pipe fitted. Told them that I would monitor it to see if the leak still occurs. Their point of view was 'we can't be sure where the leak is from so we usually change the injector and the pipe'. In other words they were fishing to see if I just rolled over and let them sell me an injector! I don't have any objections to that but ONLY if it is required Twisted Evil

I've tracked down my leak to around one of the injectors - it actually looks like its seeping out of the compression fitting to the hose between the rail and injector. Can this just be tightened up or does it need a new pipe?
