D4 'Limbo' - How Low Can You Go?

Later in the year I will be staying in an appartment complex with an allocated space in an underground parking area, which I would prefer to use if possible.

The entrance to the garage has a warning sign showing 1.9m, which I assume is maximim height.

I don't know the accurancy of that measurement, or if there is a tollerance built-in.

My Discovery 4 has normal ride height of 1938mm, access height 1888mm

I have discovered and tested the 'bump stop' setting in the Service mode using the GAP IID tool. I have driven several hundred meters in this mode and although this gives a very uncomfortable ride, there is no tyre contact with the body, even on full lock.

This gives a much larger tollerance but is it safe to use this facility (as last resort) to access the parking area?

Will the car's onboard systems raise it to access or standard height when parked?

Is there any way I could prevent this from happening? Remove a fuse or similar, perhaps?

Are there any pitfalls with this idea that I should consider?

Will I break anything?

Best regards,

Paul

I wouldn't worry about the IID for this as the access height of the D4 should be fine.

Just lock into access height by holding the button down and a lock symbol will show up - this will keep suspension locked till you either manually raise it to normal or drive over 25mph Thumbs Up

Thanks for your thoughts, you are probably correct.

If possible I planned to use 'locked' access mode as it will be the most convenient.

However, real life measurements rarely achieve precise tollerances so it may not be sufficient to produce the required clearance. A car with a glass roof is not the most appropriate vehicle to test maximum height restrictions.

I am looking at the alternate possibilities and was exploring the use of service mode bump stop height for use 'in extremis'. Probably preferable to letting air out of the tyres. Lol.

There are other options - park in the surface car park (in full sun all day), lower the access height (and all others) using the Gap IID tool or use a different car.

Can anyone indicate to me the fuse for the suspension air compressor and where this is situated, please?

Best regards,

Paul

I think it 'sounds' ok. Personally, I'd do a couple of things. Walk around the underground parking area and check for pipework and the like (sprinkler system) as that should be part of the available height characteristics but maybe worth a look.

Maybe have a banksman/someone out of the car first time you use it to be doubly sure.

Finally, in terms of your actual parking space just have a quick check that aren't any wall mounted pipes of vents. I've seen a car reverse into an underground space relying upon sensors and there was a wall mounted air con duct that smashed the rear screen as the car reversed into it when the sensors were only at bumper height and saying fine..

I agree. To be sure have a walk around - with a slim length of wood cut to 1.9m
