Oil Pump Failure
Hi I'm after some advice in December last year I had the cambelts changed by the main dealer. They also changed the tensioner but about a month ago the oil pump sheared off the the main engine at 70mph. I except the fact I need to replace the engine. I looking at pursuing this through the main dealer as they change the belts and at no point did they recommend that I change the pump as well. I was wondering if any one had been successful in doing this or any advice that might help.
My car is a 2008 discovery 3 TDV6. Any advice would be gratefully received.
Regards
Matt

I don’t think there is any official paperwork that states the oil pump should be changed.
Better off blaming them for over torquing the cam belt tensioner bolt.
Not sure then supply 2.7 engines anymore anyway ?

Go after them! They know only too well the original pumps were defective which is why LR redesigned the pump with stronger gussets to prevent the tensioner mount breaking.
Often the original pump does fail after a belt change, mainly because the new belt and tensioner places greater stress on the already weakened tensioner mount. It's not helped if the tensioner has been over tensioned.
What cause or failure is the garage trying to sell to you?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
As Pete says above there is no official line, there is pages and pages on the forum about this problem, Bodsy might be able to help you as he went through the same thing.

When I had my D3 belt’s changed at the dealership at no point did they inform me that the oil pump casing was weak, but the his forum had plenty of posts on it, unfortunately I had not seen the post before the belts was changed, anyway I contacted the dealership and customer services and they would not acknowledge there was a problem with the oil pump so I bit the bullet and had the belts and oil pump changed, at 168,000 i sold her and got a D4 good luck with it

This is my fear come true. I have a D3 with 155k on it, had the belts and tensioners changed 2 years ago before I knew anything about the oil pump. Would rather have lived in blissful ignorance as can't afford to replace it all again and I just live in hope that the time bomb doesn't go off.
I wish you luck but fear that you'll struggle to get anything out of the dealer - the whole network seem to be terrible when it comes to things like this sadly.
