Hello all
Got a few items on recent MOT fail. One of the main ones being both inner cv joint boots
Any pointers on what local mechanic should be charging for this?
Seems like everyone is busy but I'm getting an awful lot of hours thrown at this job from some
And local indy hasnt been forthcoming with quote .. might be looking down nose at my D3 still in the game (aprt from this set-back!)
Rick at RM Motors rushden now retired
Not sure its something I fancy doing on my driveway though
Also failed on a rear lower arm forward bush - these arms have never been off my 57 plate so I'm guessing that's going to be fun...happy days
Cheers

I had a tear in my front nearside outer CV boot a few weeks ago, my local mechanic (not LR specialist) charged about £230 for the whole job which I think was about £20 for the boot, and then 2 - 2.5 hours labour. That was just for one side.
I didn't really have a choice but to get it done as it was slinging grease everywhere around the brakes and on the inside of the wheel and wheel arch, and had a few long journeys coming up and didn't want to make a massive mess and also ruin the CV joint. Driveshafts aren't cheap either!
Not sure if it was a bit steep but I was fine with it given my lack of options. I imagine it would be roughly similar for an inner CV boot but am not an expert.
Hope that helps.

thanks Disco Chris
I was thinking along same lines - maybe willing to pay bit extra just to get it sorted. But not prepared to give to someone clearly quoting so far over on the hours
I've got a garage around the corner who are going to do the work now - with my supply parts which i prefer (but many garages don't like). In fact I think they have undercooked the hours and rang back saying it may take another hour or two...!
Im doing best to spray nuts & bolts with liqui-molley rust dissolver with the hope will assist
Got a package of parts on the way from AF.... fingers crossed will be back in the beast next week
Anyone recommend a decent LR savvy mechanic / Indy in north northants area these days for future ref.
Rocking LR now clised / Rick at RM retired. Would like some options
Cheers

It can be done on the driveway easily, only a couple of nuts to remove - about 2hrs depending how competent you are.

..cheers, its often the one or two bolts that seem to stop me in my tracks!
I'm being abit more selective with what i take on these days.. more for my own sanity
I will be doing one or two bits myself - on that note what's the thoughts on Lemforder track rod ends Vs a n other .. like Delphi for example or Apec maybe..? Is it worth the extra for Lemforder ? Is it noticeable?
I seem to want to go for Lemforder and pay the extra but not sure why on my 16 year old car... but £20 is £20 .. over a couple of rod ends..
Cheers
