are D4 and late D3 rear bumpers the same?

Hi all

I have a disco 3 2008 in santorini black with factory colour coded bumpers / arches

When i bought the car the rear bumper was already damaged and i stupidly thought it would be easy to pick up a replacement online.

Its proving difficult as it seems santorini black wasnt that common on the d3 and finding a non scuffed bumper is pretty rare.

Looking at the D3 and D4 side profiles it looks as if the rear bumper is identical - can anyone confirm if it is the same or infact different?

It would save me a lot of hassle as the d4s seem to be more common in this colour and all were cc'd!

I've done a search on the forum but can't seem to find anyone mention if one would directly fit

Thanks

Yes, exactly the same bumper.

Also, the fittings are all the same, e.g. even an early D3 bumper would fit a late D3 and all D4s (as would be the same the other way around).

Unfortunately not - the park sensors are different and the mounts are a different type.
However if you fit the D4 loom with a complete bumper that has a loom and sensors fitted it will fit

Good point, as fog lights on front bumpers would also be different.

But these are all “fittings” which attach to the bumper, which yes are all different and model dependant.

Though my referral was fitment of the actual bumpers themselves to the body (without fittings), or are you saying that is indeed different too?

The park sensors are a bit like belly buttons (bare with me on this) some are outies and some are innies as in the D3 ones stick out of the bumpers whereas the D4 ones are slightly recessed inwards. I’ve never tried a d4 mount into the hole on a D3 bumper but I suspect the D3 hole for the mounting is bigger externally as well as the internal diameter of the hole in the mount.

The connector for the sensor is also a different style but you can buy these and splice to the existing loom or change the bumper loom to use the D4 bumper on a D3

Therefore if you fit a D4 rear bumper that has the loom and all sensors fitted it should be a simple swap over
