Radio system is driving me mental at the minute.
it had packed in on my 2010 D4 auto and an auto electrician diagnosed the main cd unit.
changed it and it booted up straight away. happy days
a few weeks back I had a few issues with fuel its been in the garage back out and nothing was working. drove home it comes back to life for a bit then dies again.
checked codes and get U0184-00 lost communication with radio.
couldn't clear the code.
disconnected both ends of battery shorted leads together, put it back together and everything works perfectly no issues.
drove to work perfect
get back in and the buttons on the left of the screen won't work and its stuck on radio 2
just started it up again and now its still playing radio 2 but screens blank.
any suggestions, its a bloody menace?
ive got a wet cell battery varta G3 and its showing 12.5v static and 14.5v running Current........

From memory, LR switched to AGM batteries with the D4, maybe even with later D3’s as “wet” batteries were the cause of numerous electrical issues.
In my case, the D3 infotainment system on occasion wasn’t powering off after the ignition was turned off and the vehicle locked and alarmed, thus draining the wet battery and a replacement AGM battery sorted that. Or at least the problem didn’t happen again.
In theory that shouldn’t be the answer to your problem, but maybe!
Good luck with getting it sorted. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

hmmm ...
Sorry LT, your battery info is a bit wrong - IIRC D4s with stop-start got AGMs then later D4s started getting AGM regardless (presume merely from point of view of why stock two variants when one of them is the better choice and covers all bases? )
That said, it was possibly worth a punt.
What you need to look for are dodgy earths. The main earth straps are technically an option (battery to body/engine) but unlikely as they'd cause more issues. More likely is an earth point near centre console that grounds the radio head unit. I've just seen a post somewhere (Facebook ?) of something similar that was "fixed" when an ODB scanner was attached but then died shortly after it was disconnected. this would, in theory, provide an alternative earth point IMHO.

^ You’re right.
I remember now swapping the AGM battery I fitted in the D3 into my 2010 D4.
For sure my 2014 D4 was fitted with an AGM battery, but I thought LR started fitting before then. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I'm sure this comment will trigger a collective groan 'cos I say it so often - but check deep in your footwells for water - intermittent and inconsistent "sulking" of infotainment components was ONE of the several consquences when I had bad footwell flooding.
If not due to water, then worth remembering that ANY faulty device on a bus can wreak havoc with OTHER devices on the same bus; I've had a faulty reversing aid controller cause rear lights to misbehave and car to drop into "limp home" mode.
Persistence will be your best friend I think ))

still only fault showing is the Ucode for loss of communication.
pulled everything apart today again to check everything, fuses and relays seem fine.
tested the supply to the stereo and its only showing 4.7v. where can I be dropping voltage?? Current........

made a bit more progress tonight
did the hard reset again, this time something changed.
the screen came back alive! the U code for loss of communication with audio unit has changed from permanent to temporary but would not clear further.
the radio will turn on and the screen will not now turn off its just sat on the LR logo, full 2 button lock of on the doors etc come back 15 mins later and the screen is still on.
ive pulled the terminals and im going back through the hard reset again.
any ideas? Current........
