LR4 headlights don't work |
|
2011 LR4. The headlights have suddenly stopped working?. Fog lights at the front too. Main beam OK.
There is no fuse for these but there is a relay I guess. The workshop manual is pretty esoteric and of little help.
All the other lights work as per usual.
Which relay controls all this and/or which main fuse if there is one?
Thanks for any pointers

very odd.
THe D3 has 2 large J type fuses under the bonnet. With a bulb symbol.
These do exterior lights side/dip/main
No relays

they use a MOSFET transistor IIRC so that they can allow the surge start-up current without blowing - cars with Xenons don't have different wiring and they can take a hefty initial current.
it will shutdown supply if large current persists for too long. so if you have a short, it will shut down the supply.
Didn't think fogs were on same circuit ? someone brighter may correct me.
Main beams are halogens so don't need the fancy circuitry. .

So if the main beams are on another circuit, where is their fuse?
I can hear something click in the passenger side fuse box but can't locate it and it is far from clear on their circuit diagrams

and the odd thing is that the headlights on high beam work but the fogs and the ordinary headlights don't. I would have though it improbable that foru bulbs blow at once so where can the fault be?
I have the IID tool but my car does not have the headlight ECU..

Fogs are on Fuse 3 in the glovebox fuse box.

Thanks! I'll check but it comes to mind that since the rear fog light works then perhaps the issue is bulbs at the front? I will also check that after checking fuse 3

Handbook says Fuse3/15A/Blue/Front Fog Lights.
can't see rears listed.

Right. Fixed.
I had a random DTC code:
B1D01-15 Right Low Beam -
Circuit short to battery
or open
Right low beam circuit
short circuit to power or
open circuit
Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check
right low beam circuit for short circuit to power or
open circuit
This basically means the bulbs were blown - both of them.
I learned a couple of things though.
Getting the grill off so you can remove the headlights is done by unclipping the top four clips and pulling the grille OUTWARDS at the bottom (each side). Not UPWARDS as all the manuals say.
Accessing the fusebox on the passenger side is not done by pressing the sides of the box inwards but by pushing the left hand clip downwards..
Still, all's weel taht ends well but I wonder what made both bulbs go at once

Other than blown bulbs, what is likely to cause this fault? Does the 50a relay influence the FET system?
Both my main dipped headlights went awol tonight... had to drive home on sidelights in the dark. High beam working ok. Checked a bulb - looked fine but changed it for a spare and still not working. If in doot, flat oot!!

These are just Haolgen though - not really producing heat of that magnitude. And why would both stop working all of a sudden? Sounds a bit odd. That said, it is a Landrover!! If in doot, flat oot!!
