Never again. Completely useless insurance company. |
|
I phoned to renew my quote after being with them since 2019.
I was asked all sorts of different questions: How often will your named driver be using the car per week? WHAT? NEVER BEEN ASKED THIS BEFORE!
They had my car as a different spec even though a search of my reg gave the correct model.
My wife is classed as a Foster Carer and after asking was this self employed, they would need to look into this, they have had all the information since 2019.
My quote jumped and they couldn't tell me by how much until they spoke to the underwriters, last week they were ready to take my money with the updated information they took, however this week the questions were as though they were trying to get out of the quote.
Terrible service. Never again will these charlatans get a penny from me.
Be careful people this company has some shady practices. ...........One life live it..........

Which insurer? I found NFU the most invasive and expensive.

Hi,
there also known as Howden now as well.
have to say I have also had good service from them, few months ago I renewed my camper van conversion with them, discussed how far the conversion had gone and made sure everything was still covered, value increased and premium only went up a bit, expected it was going to go up more due to rest of insurance industry increases
phoned them today about our main car and Abraham was very helpful and tried a number of options to get a good package, best price was Less than we paid last year but limit on miles was 7500, so were still looking
can not fault him,
we did get asked who was main driver and was the second driver a "frequent" or "infrequent" driver not quantified just what we "thought"
also got asked what we paid for the car and what its worth now.

We used to have a whole range of business and vehicle policies with A-Plan but, since they have been taken over by Howden, find we have to be much more attentive when renewing as not all of their agents are as conscientious as others.
We insure the D4s elsewhere, and may be moving our engineering policies away too, but as with any sector it pays to shop around.
We did try the NFU for a year but soon dropped that after quoted premiums more than doubled over a 7 month period (we moved one vehicle over part way through a policy). If you think A-Plan are intrusive with their questioning then don't bother to call NFU Mutual! Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Hi All
just to clarify on a few points
"How often will your named driver be using the car per week?" - this is just another way of asking if they need the vehicle for occasional/casual/frequent use. As a broker (not an insurer) we have to ask questions that cover all insurer criteria, even if only a few of our panel require it, otherwise we end up coming back and forth to you with additional questions - asking everything we need to know up front saves you time in the long-run and streamlines the process.
"Since they were taken over by Howden" - we changed our name to Howden on 1/10/2023, however we became part of the Howden group 2 years prior to that, no one noticed because nothing changed. At the same time of the brand change the insurance rates spiked and everyone connected the two, but changing a logo on our letters has zero impact on your insurance. Branches remain, staff are the same etc, the brand change of a broker does not effect insurer premiums.
During the same period of time one of the main 4x4 insurers paused themselves in the market and meant a lot of clients had to be moved to alternative insurers who may not have been as competitive, this insurer effected all brokers not just us as it limited the already limited options for JLR products (due to their high theft rate many insurers already have strict criteria on the brand). This insurer has since returned to the market fairly recently.
Due to the theft increases of JLR models and the withdrawal of one of the main insurers we decided to withdraw our advertising on the forum, we are still here as do still help many members however as we were finding the options available to newer (high value, high theft) models were becoming harder to place we "took a break" from advertising - it's not a decision that was taken lightly as we have supported the many forums (Disco3/4, Def2, BabyRR, FreeL2, FullFatRR, RRSport) for years and years.
Thanks and I hope that answers some questions Brand change: New Logo, New Name, New T-Shirt - nothing else changed.

Thanks Carlie. Love the way you / APlan / Howden’s engage. Whilst you might not always be the most competitive all the time, we’ve never had anything but excellent service. My wife won’t go anywhere else!
Good to hear you’re doing JLR again. My L663 Defender is up for renewal on a multi car with my daughter’s car. I’ll give you a buzz and see what’s what. Might be able to do something with my camper conversion which is with your Whitley? branch.
As for NFU, I think they are incredibly intrusive in their questioning. It was very off putting. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Thanks Moo!
We still remain competitive on the Classics, Modified and pre 2014 models, the newer ones can still a struggle with our panel but you'll find that's the case with most insurers at the moment.
High hopes for the JLR security they reevaluated, when it proves itself in theft statistics hopefully we'll start to see those models start to come down in price.
