Diesel leak !

SWMBO spotted a dark patch on the drive yesterday and asked was the Disco leaking oil, like the 300tdi did it's whole life. I assured her it was air-con water and nothing to worry about.

Turns out we were both wrong, albeit she nearer the mark.

Seems i have diesel dripping from somewhere under drivers feet area. I realise the fuel filter is there somewhere but that's not been touched since last service in June.

Do they "suddenly" leak ? or is there something else "I" should be looking at ?

Sod's law the indy up the road has had an early finish today - but with luck will be about tomorrow.

TIA
 .

It's been know for the drain on the fuel filter to leak in the area you mention.

Thanks Steve.

can that be fixed or is it just a case of just fitting a new filter?

It can be fixed if it's just the washer, or there is a new drain stop at your local garage, as they are similar to other ones.

So ... it's up on the ramp and it's looking like it's leaking from the top of the filter.

Nothing looks wrong except the tiniest patch of rust on the housing, back right in the pic.

Any suggestions?

I have had similar in the past, turned out the plastic diesel filter housing had a small crack in it. Bit of a pig to remove the bracket to replace!

Hopefully not that. The filter that came off appears to be very slightly unevenly concave, hence replacing it.

so ... sorted by the look of things and just £20 labour plus a new Mann filter.

Bonus was that whilst it was on the ramp, I got to have a look at what needs doing to fix the knackered sidestep. My worry was it was the cill that had rotted as it felt like the bracket was moving with the step ... but it's the bracket that has snapped. Yes, it's rusted badly but I have my suspicions as to what (who) broke it.
