Car shuts down

This has happened a couple of times wasn’t even sure it wasn’t me.

After stopping and actually selecting park the car turns off by itself as if I had then pressed the Start button. It was only after it did it for a 3rd time was I sure I didn’t do it.

On my June 2015 model with start stop, if the start stop has kicked in as I park, the car automatically turns off when I undo my seat belt. No need to press the stop button. Could it be that?

Sounds exactly like it, just hadn’t linked it to undoing the belt but as I tend to do that automatically without thinking that is not surprising.

I don’t have a great issue with start stop other than reducing the life of the battery (our Freelander2 lasted about 2.5 years)but the jury is out on start being triggered by the brake as opposed to the accelerator.

As two past cars with S\S didn’t have an auxiliary battery I wonder about the logic that said the D4 needs one at some expense.

Obviously makes electrics more complex, but on this car I think it's a good idea to have an auxiliary battery that keeps everything running when start/stop kicks in. Saves the main battery for important stuff. From the forum it appears all sorts of strange faults can be caused by a main battery not at its best. I find the car starting as I lift my foot off the brake to work really well.
If I'm in for a longer wait and put the car in neutral, I can take my foot of the brake which I also like . Car then starts as I put it into drive. I find the system in my 2016MY to work very well.

If I have a problem with the idea it is why did they opt for such a piddly little second battery? From some suppliers it is even more expensive than the main battery Question

Ford did try a similar layout in some pre millenium Transits but both batteries were the same size and the starter solenoid connected both batteries to the starter motor. Ancilliary loads were connected to the second battery ensuring at least one battery would be fully charged for starting.
