Radio and touch screen not turning off... |
|
Good afternoon all.
I've been putting up for years with a radio that randomly turns off (all power, to both radio and touch screen) on my 2005 HSE. It's not really bothered me as a few miles down the road it would usually fire back to life. Occasionally the hard reset process would cure a longer term shutdown of it.
However, today, I have the opposite problem - the radio unit is unresponsive whilst in the ON state. I've turned the engine off, got out, got in, locked and unlocked and the radio head unit just stays powered up. I get sound from the speakers, but unable to control the head unit volume, or turn the radio channel, nor turn it off.
Have any of you had this before, if so, any ideas for resolving it?
(Separately, it may be related, I've recently found that when I leave the car the central locking responds about 5-10 seconds after pressing the remote. On re-entry the dash says 'key in ignition' so I'm wondering whether the key barrel is not recognising that I'm removing the key, so the central locking gets confused. Might these be related?) 2022 BMW i4 M50. Bought Oct 2022. 10,200 miles and counting...

When I think the radio likes to stay on when the key is in, so it could be related.

I've solved this (temporarily or permanently I'm yet to discover) by merely removing the fuse for the A/V and reinserted it. Fuse 53. Took it out for about five mins, then back in. Working as normal now.
I've also dabbed a bit of grease on the end of the key blade too, and inserted in and removed it from the ignition barrel a few times. It has made the insertion smoother and I wonder whether there's a mechanical switch in the barrel that wasn't recognising the removal of the key, as its now working perfectly again
Hopefully 10 mins effort solving both issues. 2022 BMW i4 M50. Bought Oct 2022. 10,200 miles and counting...
