ignition barrel

I have a 54 plate SE model. Should the ignition barrel be illuminated? Mine isn't. If it should be and the bulb has blown, how easy/difficult is it to change?

Yes it should be illuminated.

It is called the 'ignition switch glow ring'.

Never removed one but given the easy access it can't be difficult or demanding.

ignition switch glow ring bulb

As best I can determine, in my 2005 LR3, and I guess all 3's, the ignition switch glow ring bulb is a 1.2 watt capless 12VDC clear bulb that has a green translucent cap that slides over it. This seems to spec out as a generic 286 bulb per the attached jpg's.

This may also be the bulb that illuminates the cigarette lighter in the 3's.

As such, I see a Land Rover part number bulb RTC3635 1.2 watt 12VDC used in older vehicles for cigarette lighters and similar.

I wondered if the RTC3635 and generic 286 bulb were the same bulbs?

The reason I ask this as the glow ring on my 3 is no longer illuminated and hence I presume the bulb is burned out after eighteen plus years of service. I gather that there are also green 286 LED equivalents available but I am somewhat cautious when substituting parts re the electrical system.

I also assume that there is still power going to the glow ring bulb as the circuit re the interior lamps that go on and off are functioning as it should be.

The link below is to about the only info I could find on replacing the bulb.
