Discovery prices around the world

So guys, we sometimes complain about the cost of used vehicles (especially Landrovers) in the UK, I’m sitting with family in Ankara Turkey tonight discussing…. You guessed it….cars.

Proper 4x4 vehicles have an almost cult following round here, with mods and off-road clubs abound however! At what cost! Turkey has a 40% import duty on all foreign vehicles and that get reflected in the used car market. At home, a descent discovery 3 can set you back around £7k? Hers a screen shot from the local for sale adds. For reference, 1,000,000 tl is currently around £27,000

So the question to our international team is, how much for a relatively good Discovery 3 (or 4) ?[/url]

Somewhere between a few k for a non runner and 5 k for a 500k km driven D3 2.7 to 30k for a 200k km driven 2016 LCV…. https://www.nettiauto.com/land-rover/disco...untry[]=73

If you want German prices, see autoscout24 or mobile.de.

A D3 4.4 liter V8 good shape was for sale for 15-16k the other week.

New Zealand 2006 Discovery 3 4.0 V6 Petrol SE Auto Bonatti GreyDiscovery 3

Quick search on New Zealand auction site Trademe

Exchange rate 1NZD = 0.5GBP

I brought my 2006 D3 4.0L petrol 5 years ago for $16,500 NZD at 108,000km. Its now done 161,000km. I'd probably get my money back!

Cheers

United States 2007 LR3 4.4 V8 SE Auto Zermatt SilverLR3

In the US, a clean, nice condition D3 4.4l v8 SE with 120k-180k miles can be bought between $5k and $8k US. There are regional differences, and they can go north and south of that range depending on availability of complete service records and whether things like suspension air bags, front diff, control arms have been changed. I bought my 2007 a year ago for $5,500 - clean, no rust SE with HD package - overall very good shape with most records, but hadn't had any of above done. I figure I have about $12k in it now with getting those and some other things done, but couldn't likely sell it for more than $10k.

Quick check on Norways most used site for used cars: the most expensive D4 will set you back 450k NOK, about £40k. Outrageous price of you ask me, with 244k kms on the clock, it's been around the block a few times as well. A busted-up non-runner will cost you 2-3k NOK, and it'll cost you more than a weeks pocket money to get those running again..
Good Discos are expensive over here, mine ser me back 150k NOK a few years ago, and that's rather a lot for a 15 year old car. I could maybe expect to get 120k for it today, even with all the money I've poured into it. Still, it puts a smile on my face every day Very Happy

LR3's and 4's will start to sell on condition as time moves on and prices will probably improve - no one seemed to buy Discovery 5's here at all - I have seen about 5 total in Houston since they came out.

My 2010 LR4 with 96k was up for sale for $14500 from a 'LR Specialist' (I did a swap for a VW Bus)

Problem in the US for these vehicles is the amount of miles we so to the rest of the world - the chance of finding low mileage is zero and not too many buyers want the risk of a high mile LR which limits the pool to sell to.

I wasn't complaining - I plan to drive it, not sell it - it is a helluva great vehicle for $12k, or even $18k if I need to put some more into it the next year or so. There really is no good comparison over here for the dollar.

I sold a much loved 2010 F250 Diesel with 210k miles for right at $18k when I realized how much people were paying for them.
I wasnt towing horses any longer and had less need for an open bed.

Bought the LR3 with 130k miles. Great riding vehicle, and solid tow vehicle right up to the 7k limit. F250 was obviously better, but I'll rarely tow more than 4k any longer and at that weight the difference is negligible.

I agree that the LR3 is likely at the bottom of the depreciation curve (in the US) - I think it has been for about 3-5 years, so as more are retired or getting over 200k miles, remaining good ones should begin to move the other direction. I suspect the LR4 is a few years away from bottoming, and given the reputation of the LR4 engines here in the US wouldn't be surprised if that takes a little longer to bounce.

D4 are dropping like a stone. Understandable as the engines are a lottery and a 10k fix. Fuels expensive and don't mention the insurance!
