Bought new key - was I scammed?
I just bought a new key from fleabay. It reckons it.contains all the radio stuff and that all I need to do is to install a battery and to get the blade cut, but I'm a bit skeptical.
Please take a look at these photos and let me know what you reckon.
First, the gubbins from the old key...
And now the gubbins from the new key. Just need to add a battery, apparently...

Defo looks suspect..probably only flashes and that's about it! try the battery from your old key and see if you can programme it with an IID (or similar)... if it won't programme then you have your answer... Ebay should give you a refund if you paid by Paypal...I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

It doesn’t have the component on the pointy end to do the imboliser.

Hi,
As NYC says you will still have to program it ^
Getting someone to cut the blade can be a task it's self
Bought my second key from the bay, about £15 and it programmed easily, do remember it looking a bit busier than that took a while to find someone to cut the blade, but all good
It doesn’t have the component on the pointy end to do the imboliser.
TBH ... I don't think it has ANY components on it !

I've been wondering if they've bought a bunch of PCBs and not realised that they need to fit some components. Or maybe I've got a display model by mistake.
I sent them a message, so I'll let you know what they say. If they never answer, I'll just get my money back, I reckon.
Anyway, thanks for confirming that I may not yet be going senile.

I pay £28 each from a specialist supplier, they work perfectly after programming - which is easy to do.Chris

Before to program it, you can check if it is detected, even if not yet recognised.
Does the listing you bought from have a similar picture, i.e. more in line with expectations ? If so, just press the "give me my money back" option and don't spend time proving what, I suggest, we already know.

There is an IC on there but it would take some impressive programming to replace the functions of all the components on the board. The lands for the antenna at the tip are there but no conductors the connect it to anything else.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

There's absolutely 0 chance that will work.
Do you have an iPhone? If so use the 'magnifier' app to read the details on top of the chip, I'm now fascinated by what it actually is. There's not a whole lot that of options that chip could be, but it will only do one function (e.g. op-amp, voltage regulator, etc) so I'm wondering what on earth the point of it was - perhaps it can blink the leds to pretend to work...
