Morning all, my D3 has sprung a leak! Whilst not pouring out, the coolant level drops out of the expansion tank on relatively short journeys.
With the engine cover removed, everything that I can see looks dry. Dropping the sump guard plate down, the front of engine and radiator etc. seem dry but there are lots of coolant drips at the rear of the engine. However I cannot see any obvious sources of the leakage.
Can anyone give me some tips please on what is likely to be leaking around there, common faults or otherwise? Not such a Disco Newbie now!

Have you checked the thermostat housing ? They sometimes get a fine crack along the join

Thanks, I've not stumbled across that yet, where is it located?
I've dried everything off, run the engine up to temperature several times and left standing, but odddly there is not sign of any leakage currently. this is depsite finding a good dose of coolant spray low down from back of engine and under gearbox sump when I took the under trays off yesterday.
Dampest concentration appears to be around the diff/left side chassis rail area, so possibly not leaking from the rear of engine as I had first thought. still cannot see any dampness coming down from above though. All hoses etc. in the vincinity appear dry Not such a Disco Newbie now!

Thanks everyone, it very much looks like the water (thermostat?) housing in the vee is the culprit.

New housing has arrived, but now struggling to push over new cooler o-ring, despite liberally applying olive oil!
As not a genuine part (cooler o-ring does not seem to available separately from LR, you have to buy the whole coooler!), I sourced one with close dimensions to those detailed in the thread linked above. This has a round profile and may not be compressing enough. The old one taken off (that I have subsequenltly misplaces, grrr! appeared to be of a squarer flat sided profile - but this may not have been an original?
Any thoughts or advice gratefully received! Not such a Disco Newbie now!
